New redwood promotion

wood plywood dealers and builders, is currently being introduced in the California market area. The program, which captures the lure and excitement of the gold rush era, is a departure from the more traditional promotions utilized through the years by Simpson Timber.

The sales promotion is threefold: it is designed to affirm the current and the future availability of 5/8" custom redwood plywood; to communicate the advantages of the product to builders and architectsi to re-state Simpson's commitment to quality.

The program, effective through December 15. enables distributors to earn prizes valued up to $3500. Incentive points of 200 per 5/8" panel will be the basis for purchase of prizes.

Backing up the three month red- wood plywood rush, Simpson Provides slide presentations, direct mail pieces, and other sales materials to customers to assist in each firm's own Promotional efforts.

A Simpson Timber mill was the first to successfully manufacture redwood olvwood.

1977 Lumber Production Up

The l2 western states in Western Wood Products Association's territory produced over 21.5 billion board feet of lumber during 1977. Overall this was a 4.30/o increase from 1976. Oregon led all states in production, producing 7,509,000,000 board feet of lumber. Oregon was followed by California, Washington, Idaho, Montana and the rest ofthe l2 states. The largest increase in production (by board feet) came in Washington with 370,000,000 more board feet of lumber produced in 1977 than in 1976, according to WWPA's 1977 Statistical Yearbook, just published.
