The APA board chairman had encouraging news of solid headway and greater rewards just ahead as a return for the industry's many years of investment in promotion beamed at Western Europe.

"Our program to develop international markets is battling back from the recent recession in Europe and the trade disadvantage we experienced when the value of the Canadian dollar took a nosedive last year," he noted. "During recent months, APA has made real progress in overcoming code obstacles and promoting the acceptance of American-made plywood in several nations. This is the first step toward tapping the tremendous market potential of Western Europe."

The trend toward increased plywood consumption in Europe could eventually lead to a l0 billion sq.. ft. market, Langfitt suggested.

Globe International of California, Inc., won the Top Vendor of the Year award from the Handvman of

The Handyman firm its sales, accounting, advertising gl J merchandising departments to dc,srmine the winner. Each department was supplied with a list of 25 venclors and a questionaire to evaluate vendor performance on a wide range of points.

The results of the poll came back loud and clear. "Globe won almost unanimously," according to Don Cook, Handyman's vice president of merchandising. "It was an overwhelming vote of confidence," Cook noted.

The retail chain has 50 Handyman stores in California, Oregon and Arizona, as well as 9 others in Texas, two in Oklahoma and four in Illinois.

Other vendor awards made at that time went to Colonial Merchanoi-':rg, Federated Sales, Newell Corp., Stanley Tools, and Universal Paint Co.

The award was presented to Globe International president Lou Massing by Harvey Rosen, Handyman president and Don Cook.
