I I OVEMBER 8-l I is the date for the lI :qth Annual Management Conference of the Lumber Association of Southern California.
The site will be the Marquis Hotel on Indian Ave., one block from Palm Canyon Drive, in Palm Springs. It's close to many of the fine eating establishments, including the restaurant in the hotel, and not very far from any number of enjoyable activities that can be found only in the desert in the fall.
Registrations are already coming in at a good rate. Those members who haven't made their hotel reservations or registered with the association office best do it now.
The theme for this year's conference is "Be A Leader In The NinetiesNot A Follower." To be a leader, you need to position your business properly in the market place. To learn how, be on hand for our keynote speaker, Paul Koenigs- berg, a senior vice president of Management Horizons, a division of Price Waterhouse. He has had considerable experience working with retail and wholesale distribution firms, assisting them in their market position.
Noel Crisp, who has had considerable consulting experience with retail lumber distribution firms in California, speaks as a lead in to Koenigsberg's presentation. Thursday is the day. Be there to hear it all.
A panel of experienced lumber distributors will discuss "Success, Failure and Luck or How I Have Kept It All Together For The Last 30 Years." This has been an extremely popular panel for the last two years. So here it is again, with new players.
The 2nd Growth Panel is being assembled and organized by the president, Drew Sasser of Buena Park Lumber. He is certain to get the cream of the crop. No one dares to say "no" to him.
Bruce Givner, an attorney, will tell how to transfer the family business and stay within the confines of the tax laws. Tax law can be intimidating to the average person, but you can get a better understanding of how it affects your business transfers by being at this important session. Laws affecting the relationship between the owner and employees will also be discussed. This is great stuff. Plan to attend.
The Friday lunch speaker will be Gil Hamblett, who has spoken to thousands about "Don't Take Yourself Too Seriously And Enjoy Business More." This gentleman is funny, interesting and informative.
The social schedule includes golf, tennis, cocktail receptions, dinner and dancing, plus meeting some wonderful people and enjoying old friends.
Some members of Lumber Merchants Association of Northern California will be joining us this year. They will be concluding an Owner's Conference at the Wyndham Hotel in Palm Springs just as we begin. As part of an effort for the two associations to do more together, they are planning to participate in our activities. lt will be a great new experience for all.
The 39th Annual Management Conference will be outstanding. As a member of Lumber Association of Southern California, you should be there. Get your reservation in now and we will see you at the Marquis Hotel, November 8, 9, l0 and 11.
