Roof Caves In

A forklift driver accidentally struck a vertical beam inside a lumber warehouse at Ganahl Lumber Co., Anaheim, Ca., causing the roof to partially collapse.

The July 3l collapse caused about $100,000 in damage, rupturing pipes and the sprinkler system and spreading debris over a wide area.

No one was injured; the man was alone in the warehouse and ran for safety after hitting the beam and hearing it crack.

Huge Lowe's DC Planned

Lowe's Cos., the nation's second largest home improvement retailer, has been actively site seeking in Southern California and Nevada for their planned distribution center.

The latest concept calls for a 100acre site and a building or buildings from 800,000 to 1.2 million sq. ft. The DC will support the approximately 100 retail stores the company plans to build in the West. Lowe's Cos. is based in North Wilkesboro, N.C.

Local press reports indicate initial interest in the Inland Empire area some 60 miles east of Los Angeles. Other possible area venues are Lancaster and Palmdale, as well as the High Desert. At this time, situating the DC in Nevada has not been ruled out. Nevada warehousing laws could have positive tax implications for the deal.

A final decision could be announced this month.
