Simpson To Sell Ex-MillTown

Simpson Timber Co., Seattle, Wa., has placed the company-owned, 108year-old former mill town of Samoa, Ca., on the auction block.

The 60-acre, 3O0-population bayside town has 98 homes. an ll-room Victorian inn, 23,000 sq. ft. of commercial space and the popular Samoa Cookhouse, all of which can be had Sept. l5 for a minimum sealed-bid of $1.75 million.

The tiny hamlet, 300 miles north of San Francisco, was part of the assets that Simpson acquired in its 1998 purchase of Louisiana-Pacific Corp.'s Cal i flornia timber properties.

New Pro-Wood Consortium

A consortium of wood products industry organizations have formed the Wood Promotion Network, a coalition to promote the use of North American wood products.

"Wood has a great story to tell and we're gearing up to tell it," said Kelly McCloskey, president and ceo of the Chicago-based group, formerly known as the Wood Is Good campaign coalition. Bozell Advertising and BSMG Worldwide are handling advertising and public relations.
