Distribution Management Systems, Inc. plans to integrate Channelinx's WebDI e-commerce product with its software systems.

Using WebDI, trading partners can exchange transactions and other business information in their own desired format, even if they use different software systems.

"By allowing business information to flow directly between back-office systems, WebDI is more efficient than the way business is conducted today, which is largely by phone and fax," says Channelinx president and ceo Jim Sobeck. "WebDI will allow DMSi users to exchange information with practically anyone who has Internet access without ever leavins their DMSi software."

Western Treater Increases Borate Options

Beefing up its arsenal of products protected from insects and wood rot, Pacific Wood Preserving Cos. has become a licensed producer of Advance Guard borate pressure treated framing lumber and plywood sheathing for residential construction.

Traditionally, termite protection for new construction has been limited to soil treatment using chemicals and very limited use of treated wood (typically just the sill plate). Advance Guard, licensed from Osmose for use by PWP on Louisiana-Pacific's SmartGuard products, still requires soil treatment, but also allows contractors to use pressure treated wood for all the framing lumber and plywood sheathing.

Handling requirements for the pressure treated wood are similar to untreated wood, using standard construction methods and materials.

PWP pres. and ceo Richard Jackson predicts, "The SmartGuard family of borate treated construction products will revolutionize home building."

The firm, with wood treating facilities in Bakersfield, Ca.; Eloy, Az., and Silver Springs. Nv., services regions that are experiencing growing prob- lems with termites and other wooddestroying pests. "Never before in our market has a homeowner been able to get a 2D-year warranty on this variety of construction products for the total treated house," said Jackson.

Each product in the SmartGuard family of borate treated building materials carries its own individual wiuranty. A contractor can choose to use all of the borate treated products, or select those products most important for their climate and pest situation. The SmartGuard line consists primarily of engineered wood products, including Cocoon Pest Control Formula, BarrierFloor, TechShield Radiant Barrier Sheathing, BarrierPanel and SmartSystem Siding.

Jackson believes that Advance Guard and other borate treated SmartGuard products will especially interest homeowners in Southern California and Arizona. where subterranean termites or moist tropical conditions have caused extensive and costly damage to homes. "These products offer builders a clear way to differentiate themselves from the pack," says Jackson. "I especially believe that the higher-end homes pur-

-The U.S. Forest Service's Roadle s s Areas C ons e rv ation Draft Environmental Impact Statement, now under fire by loggers and lawmakers chased by the active retired adult will be a good fit for this product."

While the borate treated framing lumber, barrier flooring and barrier sheathing typically add about $2,000 to the cost of the average new home, Jackson said that this amount was significantly below the cost of building a new home out of steel framing, masonry or concrete. Jackson also emphasized that, in the event of termite attack or dry rot, remediation costs could easily exceed the cost of using the treated wood product.
