for men to get used to the idea. Not very many people like change, men or women, Don't believe they do.
Traditionally, it has always been a man's world. I think they resent a woman doing the same thing.
I suppose for the same reason that some men resist lots of things. While there may be a resistance to women in this industry, I have found that men generally respect knowledge and ability. And it has been my experience to have had much more respect than resistance,
Slory q] q Glonce
Eight women in three Westem states, working in jobs from counterman (whoops, we mean counterwoman) to owner, frank- ly answer questions on the growing role of women in the distribution and sale of lumber and building materials . . .you may not agree with their answers, but you have to admire their frankness.
Are men ot vomen bettet vorkers?
Probably a toss up.
Neither. Some people are better workers than some other people. Women.
It depends on the individual. This is not a man vs. woman issue.
Outside of physical work, they are equally qualified in any department. This is not a sex issue, but rather one of individuals.
Some hard physical jobs women won?t be able to do. Selling, clerking, wholesaling can be done by both. Women have more patience with customers.
Nothing.
Most women are more patient with details than men are and that would be generally true regardless of the industry.
Why do you think you ole better quolified to do your job thon o mon would be?
What man? Some men are far more competent than I, and some are far less competent.
Not better, but equally qualified, I don't think that being a woman, per se, qualifies me anymore than it would a man, per s€.
I don't say I'm better qualified than d, man. But I'm as qualified as many men doing the same job. I feel I work just as hard as a man would doing the same job.
Nothing, but I'm just as well qualified as a man.
I don't really think that my sex has anything to do with my ability to handle my job efiectively.
Why do some men resist the growing role of vomen in the lumber ond building moteriols business?
I suspect they feel women are trying to take over their territory.
I don't believe there is significant resi$ance, More women would advance in this industry if more women sought advancement.
As far as I know, this industry is no difierent than any other.
I have never bin aware that men resisted the role of women in this business.
If there is resistanee it's because it's fairlv new and it will take time
It depends on the individual. There are jobs that both men and women can do well.
Depends upon the individual. It depends on the individual.
That is almost impossible to answer fairly-work is a matter of the indi vidual and I haven't found that sex has much to do with it.
Whot in the lunber ond building rnsteriqls business con women do better thon men?
Detail. In any industry, if a woman will admit it.
Nothing. And vice-versa.
Hos being o vomon hindered you ot ony time in doing your job?
No, except for pay.
No, except that it's awkward to invite a man to be my guest for lunch ! Fortunately, overhead benefits from this minor inconvenience.
Yes.
No.
Very seldom.
No.
Yes, when I was selling.
I don't think it has"
