BE Opens "SuperStore"
Builders Emporium has opened its first "SuperStore" in Tirstin, Ca.
The Edinger Avenue store, Builders Emporium's second Tirstin location, is the prototype of the company's new "SuperStore" concept for home improvement centers. It features a broader selection of merchandise for both the do-it-yourselfer and home contractor than is offered by traditional Builders Emporium outlets, and double the inventory of lumber.
Anthony J. Swies, president of Irvine,Ca., .headquartered BuildersEmporium, a unit of Wickes Companies, Inc., suggests the new store's merchandise mix offers "the best of both the traditional Builders Emporium home center and full-service lumber and building materials operation."
"The new store, which brings the total of Builders Emporium stores in Orange County to ll, allows us to better serve the needs ofthe serious as well as the weekend do-it-yourselfer," Swies notes.
The 50,000 sq. ft. "SuperStore" is situated on seven acres and sells more than 20,000 items ranging from lumber, hardware, and power tools to plumbing and electrical supplies. The new location features an extensive indoor and outdoor building materials yard with more than five times the board feet of lumber a traditional home center would carry and other items geared to the professional and weekend contractor.
It also offers heavier merchandise not usually sold at Builders Emporium such as bathtubs, showers, pedestal sinks and case goods, and a vastly expanded selection of doors, windows, and paint and plumbing supplies. The store also offers its customers expanded store hours, delivery of selected merchandise, special catalog orders and installation services.
A custom kitchen cabinet department will feature a full line of quality cabinets and vanities manufactured by Paragon.
The recent grand reopening included special sales, merchandise giveaways and in-store demonstrations, drawings for more than $4,000 in prizes: a $1,000 shopping spree, a Castrol mini<ar with a 2 hp. engine, a Gumout mini-truck and a lO-inch radial arm saw.
Pop Larsen, Builders Emporium's do-it-yourself home improvement specialist, was available at the store all weekend to answer questions on virtually any do-it-yourself project.
