Riley Creek OpensDenver Distribution Division
Riley Creek, Laclede, Id., officially began operations March I at its nerv sales office in Denver, Co. ( see Merchant, December, p. 36).
The division will provide a greater range of building products and services to Riley Creek customers, while moving the company further into the distribution stream of building products, including its own lumber.
"We offer efficiency in the supply chain, a broad range of building product inventory, flexible purchasing options, and distribution logistics expertise from a very low cost platform," said Erol Deren, president of Riley Creek Denver.
Benefits of the nerv division to customers include field based inventories. job management, flexible business solutions, market analysis, risk hedging and forward price protection.
The company's mill-direct sales office in Sandpoint, Id., rvill continue full operation.
Among the hires announced for the Denver office are Deren, v.p. Arnie Didier, Ken Koenig, Annette Fortune. Jon Woods, Mike Brown, Bruce McKean. Scott Visil and Jack Prock.
Combined. the team has over 140 years of industry experience.
BMD Buys Boddington
Building Material Distributors. Galt. Ca., has acquired Boddington Lumber Co.. Colorado Springs. Co.
Founded in 1954. Boddington has about 80 employees at five distribution centers: Colorado Springs. Denver and Grand Junction. Co.: Albuquerque. N.M.. and Cheyenne. Wy. John Boddin,eton and his team rvill continue to manage the operations as "Boddington - A BMD Company."
"Boddington has multiple locations in an area we weren't servicing. And their product mix is very similar. so in both respects it's a good fit." according to BMD marketing manager Trevin Hunt.
BMD, with about 320 employees. operates in California. Arizona. Nevada, Washington and Oregon. Boddington's primary markets include Colorado, Nerv Mexico. Wyoming. Kansas. Nebraska. South Dakota and Texas.
Both BMD and Boddington are long-time distributors of Marvin rvin- dorvs and doors. among other building materials. In 1959. Boddington became the first company to distribute Marvin products outside of Minnesota. rvhile BMD began carrying Marvin rvindo*'s nearly 30 years ago.
Changes Underway At DA
Distribution America, a network of independent hardware, hardlines and paint sundries wholesale distributors, is restructuring its organization.
"Reorganizing will allow DA to give more focus to the regional needs of our members' businesses and have the oppornrnity to develop stronger relationships between the member organizations, vendors, and the DA office," said David Christmas, president and c.e.o.
He said that the reorganization plan places additional emphasis on advertising, merchandising, and specific market driven oppornrnities. Headquarters will also be moved from Des Plaines, Il., to Charlotte, N.C., resulting in cost savings to members and convenience to vendor partners.
