Conrad Introduces New Treated Wood

A new type of pressure treated wood-Wolmanized Natural Selectis now in production at Conrad Forest Products. North Bend. Or. The wood is treated with Wolman E preservative.

The first dealer to stock the product was Truitt & White, Berkeley, Ca., which received its initial load Jan. 10.

The latest addition to the Wolmanized line is pressure treated with a copper-based preservative. which contains an organic fungicide. In use in l5 counties in Europe, Australia and Asia, it reportedly has become the most successful alternative to CCA treated wood.

Natural Select Wood is suitable for above ground and soil contact applications. Initial projects are expected to be playground equipment, outdoor specialties, decks and walkways, especially in locations where there are environmental concerns or restrictions. and where consumers want a choice in preserved wood.

Industry and code agencies have recognized the preservative qualities of Wolman E preservative. It is listed in the standards of the American Wood-Preservers' Association as copper azole (CBA). Model code evaluation reports on Natural Select treated wood have been issued by ICBO ES and SBCCI PST & ESI; a report is expected soon from BOCA.

Conrad Forest Products has been preserving wood since 1958 and offers a range of treatments. The company is producing Natural Select wood in Oregon at both its North Bend and Rainier facilities. By using an ammoniacal formulation, Conrad will treat Douglas fir for structural applications and hem-fir for general outdoor construction. Conrad serves the western states and Pacific Rim markets.

Wolman E preservative was developed by Arch Wood Protection (formerly Hickson Corp.).
