64th Arizona Annual Set

May 16-18 is the time of the Arizona Lumber and Builders Supply Association convention. Ventana Canyon Resort in Tucson has been selected as the site for the 64th annual meeting.

An active program of convention business is scheduled as well as speakers from throughout the country who will key their offerings to the convention theme of La Ventana a la Futura (the window to the future). Members will have an opportunity to share useful ideas as well as take a look into the future of the building supply market.

Meetings will begin on the second day of the meeting with a keynote luncheon following. Additional business and educational meetings will fill the second day.

Taking advantage of the location in the Santa Catalina Mountains, the convention will offer a golf tournament, western steak fry on the desert, the second annual wholesaler's extravaganza night and a final banquet and dance.

The wholesaler's extravaganza night is being planned as a repeat of last year's party and entertainment. Designed to show appreciation, the event was inaugurated at last year's convention and proved to be very successful. According to an association spokesman, "It's a night like no other." The western steak fry and dance held outside under the stars is a traditional way for the Arizona association to show the hospitality typical of their state.

The course which will be used for the annual golf tournament is classified as one of the most picturesque and challenging in the desert area. It is said to be a setting similar to that used for the famous "skins game" seen on NBC TV.

Delegates to the National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association president's council meeting, which will also be held at Ventana Canyon Resort, are being urged to stay over for the Arizona convention. Their meeting is scheduled for May 14-15 immediately preceeding the Arizona association's meeting.

Hotel reservations should be made directly with Ventana Canyon Resort, 7000 N. Resort Dr.. Tucson. Az. 85715, according to E.J. Johnson, executive director. Convention registration is being handled by the association at their new office.

Canfor Expands in 3 States

Canfor U.S.A. Corp., Boise, Id., has opened lumber transit-reload centers in Denver, Co., Rocky Mount, Va., and San Antonio, Tx.

The Colorado reload center is able to service 40 states with truckload lumber. Inventories include dimensional hem/fir, spruce boards, 4x4 green Douglas fir, and firllarch. The center services retailers. manufactured housing producers and distribution centers, according to Joe Reininger, Canfor lumber trader in Boise.

Spruce boards, S.P.F. dimension, eastern and western Canadian spruce are available for distribution by truck to manufactured housing producers and lumber customers within a 250 mile radius of the Rocky Mount center. Bruce Bergquist, lumber trader in Boise, is in charge.

The San Antonio center receives lumber shipped on the M-K-T Railroad and distributes it by truck throughout San Antonio and south toward the Gulf of Mexico. Serving retail accounts, it handles inventories of S.P.F. 2x4, 2x6 and studs. Roger Taylor, sales manager for Canfor U.S.A. Corp.'s Texas division is responsible for the buying.
