Arizona Lumber & Building Material Dealers will join LASC members. Since there is a similarity between the two groups, it was felt that a joint meeting might be in order. It's going to be a great success, judging by the interest shown already.
The Second Growth oflicers Mike Prediger, Drew Sasser, John Allen and Julie Hogg met in late January to plan their activities for the meetings they will have in March, June, September and December.
The June meeting is the annual weekend seminar at Rancho Bernardo. The dates this year are June 3-5. Plans are underway to do a wage & salary survey in 1988, as the association has done in past even numbered years. There is a committee studying the rail situation, trying to develop ways to work with the railroads and improve service between shipper and receiver. What with deregulations, mergers that were not allowed by the federal govemment and the normal problems of equipment maintenance, track outage and short crews, the committee faces a formidable task.
The Western Building Material Dealers Association, the lobbying group in Sacramento, will meet monthly to review legislation aflecting the lumber distributor.
1988 promises to be an active year and a good year, the doomsday syndromers not withstanding. LASC's purpose is to help its members in those areas where they can't help themselves, where joint forces work more effectively than single entities. If you are not a member, perhaps now is the time to join. Call (818) 965-4344. We are there to help.
