Safety Award For Contact
Contact Lumber Co.'s clear Pine mouldings division, Prineville, Ore., was awarded the 1987 Excellence in Safety award by the State of Oregon and the American Society of SafetY Engineers.
The company was recognized for several aspects of its safety and health programs as well as its low injury rate which is 70% lower than average for wood products firms. They have reduced injury claim costs by nearly 600/o in recent years, according to Marsha Sorum, safetY director for the division.
Parr Retires From Fremont
After 55 years in the lumber industry, Ralph Parr hung up his phone for the last time on Nov, 30.
Fremont Forest Products, his employer, gave a surprise party in his honor on Oct. 19 in Eugene, Or. Many former lumber and business associates including Pete Speek, president of Fremont Forest Products, and Mazi Giustina, 93 years young of Giustina Lumber Co., were present.

National Show Sold Out
First-time exhibitors have swelled demand for space in the 1988 National Home Center Show, March l3-16 at McCormick Place, Chicago Il., leading to the earliest sell-out in the show's l3-year history.
The exhibition has been sold out despite increased show space, although organizers "are trying to satisfy current requests for space by using any cancellations that occur," said exposition mgr. Marvin Park.
