Frank E. O'Dowd, former executive vice president of the National Building Material Distributors Association, died of cancer Dec. 16, 1987. in Wilmette, Il. He was 67.

Prior to his 1977-1985 stay with NBMDA, he spent 34 years as a salesman and marketing executive for the Edward Hines Lumber Co., based in Wilmette.

Mr. O'Dowd is survived by his widow, Peggy, five sons, four daughters, a sister, and seven grandchildren.

Bert Holdren, owner and president of Rialto Lumber Co.. Rialto. Ca., died Jan. 4, 1988. in Rialto. He was 80.

A native of London. Oh.. Mr. Holdren moved to Southern California in the late 1920s to help build

Grossman's lssues Newsletter

Grossman's is now distributing a l2-page newspaper, "Grossman's Gazette," at its four Southern California warehouse stores "to try to get closer to our customers."

Dill Lumber, Riverside. Over the years, he worked his way up to yard manager. In 1953, he and Al Beales purchased Rialto Lumber. He and his son, Jerry Holdren, built the current yard two years ago.

Mr. Holdren is survived by his widow, Evelyn, a son, a daughter, two grandchildren, and three greatgrandchildren.

Bob Marriott, a partner in Boyd Lumber Co., Upland, Ca., died Dec. 31, 1987, in Duarte. Ca. He was 65.

Born in Elk City, Ok., he and Chuck Jenkins joined Boyd Lumber, Jenkins' father-in-law's company, in 1946 after serving in World War IL He served in various capacities, including handler, administrator and supervisor, before gaining a limited partnership in 1970. He was also a member of the Upland City Council.

Mr. Marriott is survived by his widow, Marion, a son, two daughters, a brother, a sister, and seven grandchildren.
