-Iri what hopefully means the beginning of a sensible settlement of the redwood pbrk problem, California's Governor Ronald Reagan has appointed Norman B. oolke" Livermore, a man whose background spans both opposing factions, as State Resources Director. The job includes control over such departments as parks and recreation and conservation.

Livermore, until his retirement, was treasurer for fifteen years of The Pacific Lumber Co., one of the largest redwood companies. Uniquely, he is also a life mem- ber of the conservationist Sierra Club and was a club director for ten years.
