Paul Raymond Jarvela, 75, former chief supervisor for the Redwood Inspection Service, Eurcka Ca., died
Nov. 25 in Arcata, Ca.
He started with Twin Parks Lumber Co., Arcata, joining Redwood Inspection Service in 1969. He retired in 1987.
James E. Harff, 66, owner of Harffco., Los Angeles, Ca., died of pancreatic cancer Dec. l0 in Los Angeles.
A native of Los Angeles, he served as a Lt. Commander in the U.S. Naw until 1955. He was awarded twb Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star for his heroism during the Korean War.
After the war, he worked for his father until Art Harff died in 1985. James then founded Harffco.
Bruce R. Stevenson, 53, president of S.D.S. Lumber Co., Portlhnd, Or., died ofa heart attack Dec. 17.
A Portland native, he was also coowner of Heathman Management Group, Portland.
Charles D. "Charlie', Lauber,'12, lon_g-time advertising mgr. of palmer G. Lewis Co., Aubuih, lVa.. died Dec. 7 in Shoreline, Wa.
_ .SoT in Seattle, Wa., he grew up in Lake _Forest _Park, Wa., graduaiing from Roosevelt High School in 194i. At the university of washington, he was involved in the Big W Club, Alpha Sigma Phi, and Alpha Delta Sigma,, as advertising honorary. He worked forAlaskan Cbpper and Brass, Seattle, during the 1950s.
He started his career with pGL in 1963 as advertising mgr., retiring in t987.

John Day, Or., died Dec. l0 in John Day.
Born in Baker, Or., he started as a logging truck driver in 1946, later joining Seneca Lumber Co., Seneca, Or. He stayed with the company when it was sold to Ellingsen Lumber in 1963, became a lumber grader and worked in quality control until 1973. ln 1973, he joined the personnel department at Edward Hines Lumber Co., John Day, and in 1983, he was made sales mgr. when John Day Lumber bought out Edward Hines. He remained sales mgr. until his retirement in 1991.

Rus M. Fredsall, 67, former director of resources for the Western Wood Products Association, Portland, Or., died Nov. 28.
He started as a forester for GeorgiaPacific and Alaska Lumber & Pulp Co. before he became a v.p. for a forestry consulting firm. In 1968, he joined WWPA as a district forester for Northern California. He was chief forester from 1974 until he retired in 1991.
Linda French, 54, lumber sales rep for Pacific Forest Products, Fresno, Ca., died of liver failure Dec. 5.
Born in Denver, Co., she began as a secretary for Groupe-Passadore Lumber, Stockton, Ca. In 1979, she joined the lumber sales staff at Redwood Empire, Morgan Hill, Ca., and later worked in sales at Bonnington Lumber, Orinda, Ca., and Pacifi c Forest Products.
John S. Thompson, 74, retired mgr. of Sequoia Supply, San Francisco, Ca., died in his sleep Dec. l.
A native of Atherton, Ca., he was a B-17 navigator for the Air Force during WWII, stationed in England.
He started with Harbor Plywood and stayed on as mgr. when the company became Evans Products and later Sequoia Supply (now PrimeSource).
