Specialist of the Year Simcoe Decks Q. How did Simcoe Decks get its start?
We are located in Ontario, Canada, and focus on projects north of Toronto. Simcoe Decks started four years ago. I’ve been involved in carpentry all my life and always had the entrepreneurial spirit. I’ve always been passionate about what I do, but it wasn’t until I started working on decks that it just really clicked for me. Getting to work outside year round was a huge bonus for me, even in our sometimes harsh winters. It wasn’t really until my second year that my work started to get the attention of many local homeowners because of my attention to detail, quality and most importantly service. I learned a lot of valuable lessons along the way—that this business is all about people and that you are not just building a structure, you are building a place that many memories will be made on. Focusing on this I was finally able to attract the right clients which led to some great projects, including a couple submissions for our first ever NADRA Deck Competition. Now heading into our fourth year, we have even more incredible projects ready to go. In January we booked up our season with projects ranging from $25,000 into six figures.
