Depot To Open More Expos

Homc Depot, Atlanta, Ca., will open three more Expo Design Center stores by February in Alphiirctta, Ga., and Houston and Richland Hills, Tx.

"We currently have l2 stores operating with plans to build threc nrorc this fiscal year," said Bryan Scott, E,xpo prcsidcnt. "The I I storcs that are planned for 2000 will bring us to a total of 26 stores."

He said plans are to have 200 Exptr stores in North Anrerica by 2005.

Fenestration Groups May Join

The Window & Door Manufacturers Association and American Architectural Manufacturers Association are exploring possibly merging into a new organization to represent the entire window, skylight and door industry.

"Increased cooperation in the last several years has already shown us a few of the benefits that a single industry voice may give us," says AAMA chairman Chuck Gilderman. "A new, even broader organization could com- bine the best attributes and strengths of each association to better serve the industry."

Chesapeake Sells Biz, Mills

Chesapeake Corp., Richmond, Va., has sold its building products division (see June, p. 16) to St. Laurent Forest Products Corp., Ontario, Canada.

The sale includes two pine sawmills in West Point, Va., and Princess Anne, Md., a Milford, Va.-based lumber reprocessing plant and a chip mill in Pocomoke City, Md.

Weinig Building New U.S. Hq.

German moulder manufacturer Weinig is building a new head office for its U.S. division, Michael Weinig, Inc.

Now based in Statesville, N.C., Weinig has seen North American sales double in five years to over $75 million and its workforce grow to 125.

The new $4 million, 63,000-sq. ft. building will be in Mooresville, N.C., and will house sales, service, showroom and training. Expected completion is December.

Burglary Spree Hits Lowe's

Lowe's, Greenville, Tn., was among the victims of thieves who apparently broke into three businesses after first disabling the alarm systems by cutting telephone cables leading to the buildings.

During the July 16 spree, the culprits broke into safes using sledge hammers, chisels and other tools found at the stores. At Lowe's, the thieves took $17,700.
