New OSB Plant In Texas
International Paper is building a new oriented strand board facility in Jefferson, Tx., for completion in Dec. 1995.
Nearby pine timber resources growing at a tate significantly greater than consumption influenced the company's selection of the Jefferson site. International Paper owns and manages over 300,000 acres of timberlands in East Texas.
The new facility, similar to the OSB plant built in Nacogdoches, Tx., in 1985, is designed to produce 350 million square feet of panels annually.
APA Annual Keynoter
Dr. Marvin J. Cetron. futurist. founder and president of Forecasting International Ltd., will keynote APA - The Engineered Wood Association's annual meeting Oct. 9-11 at the Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort, San Antonio, Tx.
The association's second annual Info Fair product and service expo will be held in conjunction witlt the meeting. Exhibits will be open the evening of the frst day and the next morning.
Various committee meetings aud talks by APA president Dave Rogoway and chairman Dennis Spencer are on the agenda. Golf and tennis tournaments and an assortment of social activities including special events for spouses are scheduled.
Wood Treating Meeting
The Forest Products Society will sponsor a "Wood Preservation in the '90s and Beyond" conf'erence Sept. 26-28 at the Hyatt Regency, Savannah, Ga.
Environmental, health and sat-ety issues aff'ecting the wood preserving industry, opportunities otTered by new treating processes and products and performance testing improvements will be discussed. Manufacturers and suppliers of wood treating materials and equipment will have tabletop exhibits.
Lowe's Sees 25% Growth
Lowe's will expand its store count by 257o from 324 to approximately 400 locations in the next 30 months.

In addition, the company will complete the fourth and final year of a rrstructuring-relocation program during 1995, a company spokesperson said. By the end of next year 123 small stores will have been replaced by prototype units in the same market.
Lowe's sales for the first week of August increased 38Vo to $121.8 million from $88.1 million for the same 1993 period, with total stores increasins from 304 to 324.
Hoo-Hoo To Elect Officers
Delegates to the l02nd International Hoo-Hoo convention in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada, Sept. 7-10, will vote for E. Z. Hunt" Northcutt Woodworks, Crockett, Tx., to become president.
Others on the ballot: Jan-Evert Hermans, international lst v.p; Andy Blackwell, international 2nd v.p., and Bernie Barber, Jr., and Royce Munderloh, international sec.-treas.; George Reneaud, Gary M. Gamble and Lindsay "Teeny" M. Johnston Supreme Nine candidates.
