Belknap Closes After 146Years

Belknap Inc., the 146year old Louisville, Ky., independent hardware distributor, ceased operation early in Febru4ry.

After nearly two months of working towards reorganization in the bankruptcy court, management announced that its action "reflected a decision by the unsecured crediton to request the company's liquidation." The Louisville closing followed the closing of the StrattonBaldwin division in New Orleans. La.. in mid-January.

Stanley Acquircs Bostitch

The Stanley Works is acquiring the Bostitch Division of Textron Inc. for approximately $193 million.

The sale, which is expected to close by the end of the first quarter, will help Stanley to develop both its professionaU industrial tools businesses and its consumer do-it-yourself business, according to Donald W. Davis, c.e.o. and chairman of The Stanley Works.

New Southern Lumber DC

Soutlrern Lumber Co., Inc., will open a wholesale distribution warehouse in Jackson, Ms., this month.

The warehouse will be located in the Hood Industrial Park Complex, 2605 Livingston Rd. Ted Lowery will be manager of the facility, according to Ken Biggs. general sales manager of Southern Lumber.

A major producer of southern yellow pine, 22 ard 24 feet long, Southern Lumber Co. also operates sawmills in Crosby and Hermanville. Ms., along with a treating plant in Crosby. The mills and wholesale salesmen will also be le cated at the Livingston Rd. facility.

Keith Lanning and Diane Parodi, the general manager and secretary/ueasurer respectively of the CRA. have been ap pointed to fill the same positions with the RIS.

There continues to be a separation between the mills which are memben of the CRA and underwrite is industry promotion activities and the mills which subscribe to the grading services pro' vided by the RIS.
