Material Association legislative conference held in Nashville was considered by far the most successful ever sponsored by the group.
The legislative luncheon was attended by 234 people including almost 10090 of the legislators, several important administrative assistants and legislative assistants. Due to the success of this miniconvention held Jan. 16-17, the board of directors of the association voted unanimously to cancel the fall convention scheduled for Oct. ll-13 in Nashville.
Representative John Bragg, chairman of the legislative task force study on state and local taxation, and Representative David Copeland, ranking minority member of the task force, discussed the tax study.
Don Jackson, president of the Tennessee Taxpayers Association and incoming commissioner of revenue, outlined in detail the Governor's tax package with a question and answer period. Cilbert Smith, pres of A. J. Smith Co., Nashville, and a director of the Tennessee Business Roundtable, and Catherine Petrucilli, executive director of the Roundtable, discussed plans foi the promotion and protection of the free enterprise system.
Frank Gorrell, BMA general counsel, discussed the "Value of a Political Action Committee.
Frederick R. Stephens, Stephens Millwork & Lumber, Nashville, was awarded the l2th annual Marshall Memorial Award presented in memory of O.R. Marshall.
