Trucks weighing more than 10,000 pounds and operating in interstate commerce will be required to pass a safety inspection based on federal standards at least annually under a new Transportation Department rule.
Inspection requirements can be met by a state authorized inspection, self-inspection in states that do not have inspection programs, roadside inspection or inspection by a garage or similar commercial business.

Charles Hatfleld Sr., president and founder of Hatfield Hardware & Lumber Co., Winnsboro, La., died Nov. ll, 1988, in Monroe, La. He was 79.
A lifelong native of Winnsboro, Mr, Hatfield worked for Greenwall's Hardware, Winnsboro, for about l5 years before opening his own company in 1936.
He was a founding director of the Louisiana Building Material Dealers Association and a past president of the old Louisiana Retail Hardware Association.
Mr. Hatfield is survived by his widow, Thelma "Teddie," two sons and five grandchildren.
Beazer Sdb Kopperg Go Unlts
Managers of Koppers Co.'s tar and wood products sector have formed a company with outside investors to purchase tar processing, wood preservation and furnace and foundry coke operations from Koppers Co., Inc., an afliliate of Beazer PLC.
The sale in excess of $200 million represents the largest single divestiture of Koppers assets by Beazer.
Robert K. Wagner, v.p. and general manager of the tar and wood products sector, will be president and chief executive officer. The new company, which will be called Koppers Industries, will own 20 plants in the U.S. and have equity interests in similar businesses in Australia and Denmark.

Scotty's ls Restructuring
Corporate restructuring at Scotty's, Winter Haven, Fl., continues to trim costs, streamline operations and improve financial performance. Sales reportedly are up.
More than 40 employees, mostly middle level management, have been let go as jobs have been eliminated, but no major layoffs are planned according to P. Scott Linder, Scotty's chariman.

Bruce W. Anthony, retired owner of Anthony Forest Products Co., ElDorado. Ar., diedJan. l, 1989, in Hot Springs, Ar. He was 72.
Born in Hopeville, Ar., Mr. Anthony was the first president of Anthony Forest Products, helping to merge a number of companies into the firm's current divisions located throughout Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas. He retired in 1972.
He had served as president of the Southern Forest Products Association and the Arkansas Wood Products Association, and on the board of directors of the National Forest Products Association.
Mr. Anthony is survived by his widow, Modean, one son, one daughter, four brothers, two sisters, six grandchildren, and one greatgrandchild.

Causeway Lumber Co., Fort Lauderdale, Fl., has been rated the largest wood component company in the state and the l6th biggest in the country, according lo .4utomated Builder.
Causeway provides construction industry suppliers with wood components to make doors, wall panels and roof trusses. The firm predicts 1989 sales of nearly $50 million, up from $43 million in 1988.
