FIVE NEW recruits have commenced civil and structural engineering apprenticeships with consulting development engineers, M-EC. Dan Green and Callum Wale join the consultancy’s head office in Ibstock, Leicestershire; Josh Carr becomes the second apprentice in the rapidly growing Milton Keynes office and Laura Dance and Connor Kilner commence their careers in the newly opened Nottingham office. Each of the new recruits will undertake a two year programme to achieve a Level 3 Construction and the Built Environment Diploma, with the option to extend their training to complete a HNC/HND. “This latest intake marks the fifth year we have offered apprenticeships and our scheme is really going from strength to strength,” explains managing director, Eddie Mewies. “The apprentices we initially employed are all forging great careers, including continuing their studies to complete Level 5 HND’s, so are setting excellent examples to our newest trainees.”

WELCOME: M-EC’s 2016 apprentice intake (l-r) Connor Kilner, Laura Dance, Callum Wale, Josh Carr and Dan Green. Dan, Callum and Josh will study at Stephenson College, Coalville whilst Laura and Connor have enrolled at New College Nottingham, marking a new partnership for M-EC. Eddie added: “Links with local colleges have proven invaluable in our search for talented young apprentices. Our relationship with Stephenson College is wellestablished and successful, and we now look forward to creating a similar partnership with New College Nottingham. With our new Nottingham office sitting within the college, at the Sustainability and Enterprise Centre (NSEC), it was a logical choice for our apprentices.” To supplement their academic studies, the apprentices’ practical work experience involves shadowing the civils, geomatics or surveying teams in their respective offices. M-EC currently employs 15 apprentices across its four offices. Placements are offered annually, with applications opening each April.
