In an effort to make Third Party Certification (TPC) easier for those responsible for fire safety to understand, the Fire Industry Association (FIA) is pleased to announce the publication of a new white paper called Third Party Certification: What does it mean for customers? Ensuring the use of competent suppliers is both a legal requirement and a practical necessity. The FIA believes TPC is the most effective way to making sure fire protection suppliers are competent. One of the main criteria for FIA members is to have TPC or be working towards to it. The white paper is divided into four main sections. Introduction - explains what TPC is and who and why should use third party certified companies or products. How does TPC work? - explains how the certification process is carried out, what information the certificate should contain and how/ where to check if certificate is fit for purpose. What schemes are available? – explains which schemes are relevant to the service being commissioned, installed or maintained and where to go to ensure that the supplier being used is certified. How to identify and select TPC suppliers? – explains to how to check if a supplier is third party certified and what to be aware of on their certificate. The paper can be downloaded for free from the FIA website at www.fia.uk.com .
