With Hugo Chapon, YOU’RE the BOSS
My name is Hugo Chapon and I am running for Student Union President at Buckinghamshire New University.
Mental health and wellbeing
I believe every student deserves to be heard and supported. Today, many face challenges with mental health – including depression, autism, and other conditions – and our union must provide stronger support. I will work with counselling services and mental health experts to lobby for enhanced resources and initiatives that address these concerns.
Healthy living
Healthy living is essential to our success. When the union offers free meals, I pledge to ensure these meals are nutritious and balanced. By collaborating
with catering teams and nutrition specialists, we can transform our food services and promote overall well-being.
Empowering communication
Every student’s voice matters. I aim to improve our communication channels so that even the least engaged student understands the power of their voice. Through regular updates and open forums, I will foster a union that truly reflects our collective strength.
Enhancing employability
I am committed to boosting our career prospects. Building on our existing job shop, I will introduce a dedicated section for students with specific mental or physical needs, providing tailored career support. Additionally, I plan to forge stronger relationships with industry
partners, creating more networking opportunities and cross-disciplinary collaborations. University Infrastructure & Housing The quality of our facilities affects our learning experience. I will advocate for improved university infrastructure and work closely with administration to support affordable, accessible housing options. Ensuring safe, comfortable, and modern living and study spaces is vital to our success. Together, we build a campus that feels like home.
A Union That Works For YOU
I stand for a union that listens, supports, and empowers. Together, we will create a brighter, healthier, and more inclusive future for every student at Buckinghamshire New University.

During Varsity Week, I will introduce a Society & Sports Showcase, offering societies a platform to exhibit their talents alongside athletic events.
Career & Employability Support from Day One
I will collaborate with BNU Careers Services and industry professionals to create:
• Early-career mentoring programs
• More internships & placement opportunities
• Tailored employability workshops
• Support for entrepreneurs and freelancers
Your career journey should start at BNU, not after it.
• Enhanced Campus Security: Strengthen CCTV coverage and increase patrols in vulnerable areas.

• Student Representation in Decisions: Advocate for student involvement in key university discussions.

Creating and enhancing quiet spaces across all campuses that are easy to access, including quiet spaces during large university events.
Belonging at BNU
Hello! I’m Abi, a third-year BA Hons Photography student and the current Secretary and Social Secretary of BNU Dance. I’m running for Bucks Vice President of Achievement and Belonging (VPAB) to build on the work of previous Sabbatical Officers and make a lasting impact on your sense of belonging at BNU.
Throughout my three years at BNU, the Students’ Union has been a vital source of support. I believe every student deserves the opportunity to thrive and feel connected to the university community. As VPAB, my goal is to provide students with the resources and opportunities to succeed personally and professionally.
Cultivating a Culture of Belonging: Belonging is the foundation of
No manifesto submitted.
I am running for Vice President Achievement and Belonging because I want to be the vessel for change that students at BNU want to see. If elected I will tackle the lack of mental health support for all students at BNU and within the Students Union. The values that drive me are honesty, hard work and teamwork. I will implement this ethos in every aspect of my role if elected.
I will work closely with the mental health team with the mental health first aiders as well as the university team. This can help to bring more awareness to the students, as there have been too
achievement. I will create a space where every student feels seen, heard, and respected. By establishing student-led hubs, I aim to connect students from all backgrounds and ensure that everyone feels supported.
Promoting Student Engagement:
I will make engagement more accessible by offering hybrid event options for remote learners, commuters, and students with disabilities. I will also organise larger events like cultural festivals and networking nights to boost leadership skills and employability.
Promoting Environmental Responsibility:
I will collaborate with local businesses to host sustainability events and launch a Sustainability Leadership Program.
Introducing Fairtrade initiatives and promoting sustainable practices in events will help foster a greener campus culture.
Enhancing Support for Students with Disabilities and Neurodiversity:
I will advocate for increased funding for disability services and improved accommodations for neurodivergent students. A peer support network will also be established.
University is more than academics, it’s a journey of growth, connection and success. As your next Vice President of Achievement and Belonging, I am committed to enhancing student life at Bucks. Together, we can create a more inclusive and empowering student experience!
many instances where students have not known about the services that they can access. Including me, it has taken 4 years to realise which services would help me in my studies. I will be the voice for championing support services within the university and what they can offer to you.
I would like to host drop in sessions for people to have a safe space to talk, chill out and decompress. I don’t want any issue to become a taboo, someone is always there to help and support, whether this is in-person, online or anonymously.
I will look to build upon the monthly Monday meals by getting more funding from the council to allow for more budget to be allocated into other Students’ Union services that need it the most.
There is a lack of integration with many student groups, and I want to steer student’s perceptions of the Students’ Union away from being just a bar and somewhere to do sports. It is much more than that, and I want to make all students aware of the societies, volunteering, employment and much more that the Students’ Union offers.
The Vice President Achievement & Belonging is responsible for the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion work of the Students’ Union, Sustainability and Green Initiatives, and the Growth and Development of student-led communities, including sports teams and societies.
Different Journeys, One Community University is more than just lectures and exams—it’s a place to belong, to grow, and to thrive. My name is Madhav Jayalal, and I’m running to be your Vice President Achievement and Belonging (VPAB) because I know what it feels like to struggle to find your place. Whether it was navigating a new culture, adapting to academic challenges, or feeling unheard, I’ve lived through it—and now, I want to make things better for every student.
I’ve been a Student Voice Officer, Course Rep, and Fresher Helper, engaging with students from all backgrounds. Through these roles, I’ve heard your concerns—whether it’s mental health, cost of living, academic support, or feeling disconnected from university life. My experiences have
A BNU for you!
Manifesto Point 1: Amplify Recognition and Equal Opportunities for Societies and Sports
Having fought this battle daily during undergrad at my previous university, I will champion equal support and celebration for all societies and sports at BNU, fostering inclusivity and visibility.
During Varsity Week, I will introduce a Society Showcase, offering societies a platform to exhibit their talents alongside athletic events. Additionally, I will push for more accreditation and recognition opportunities, empowering members to gain valuable skills and qualifications. Every society and sport is vital to BNU’s culture, regardless of popularity.
Manifesto Point 2: Career and Transition Support from Day One

graduates. I will advocate for enhanced career support from the start of university, not just the final year. This means collaborating with career services to implement tailored workshops, mentoring programs, and practical tools that equip students for life beyond BNU. My goal is to ensure every student feels confident to navigate their careers—both immediately after university and long into the future.
Manifesto Point 3: Equal Opportunities Across All Campuses
I am committed to ensuring fair opportunities for Uxbridge, Aylesbury, and High Wycombe students. I will appoint dedicated society and sports representatives on each campus to facilitate workshops, events, and activities that foster engagement. We will build a united and thriving student community by addressing each
campus’s unique needs. Every campus should experience the full breadth of BNU life!
Manifesto Point 4: Continuous Advocacy for Mental Health Awareness
Having faced my own mental health challenges, I understand the importance of a supportive environment. I will lead year-round mental health awareness campaigns, working to destigmatise issues and improving support pathways. My goal is to inspire confidence in students to seek help, break barriers, and thrive at university.
It’s all about YOU!
Hello!
I’m Bethany. I’m running to be your Vice President of Education and Welfare. I want to ensure that all students feel that they can, and are, getting the most of their university experience.
I’m an advocate for wellbeing, and despite work this year, there are still improvements to be made to support students. I’ve run and supported numerous campaigns and events around wellbeing. From encouraging conversations, encouraging students to challenge breaking stigmas around mental health and encouraging others to find their ‘big little thing’. I’d work to ensure there is sufficient support, and advice for students to access; as
Because Every Student Deserves Support University should be a place where students feel supported, not pressured. Too often, those struggling with mental or physical health issues find themselves trapped in a cycle of stress, missing lectures, receiving warnings, and feeling overwhelmed by the expectation to return without proper support. Instead of helping students reintegrate, the system currently makes them feel like failures. That’s why I am running for the Education and Welfare position – to create a system that genuinely supports students in returning to their studies at their own pace.
well as continuing previous work, like quiet space accessibility for students. I’ll continue to push to ensure that students across all campuses have access to a space where they can relax, and have a quiet moment, away from loud, crowded spaces. Whilst the university already have some spaces, I’d continue pushing for more of these spaces to widen access for students.
I’ll also continue work around student safety; there have been big strides this year, and this is something I am keen to continue. There have been numerous discussions with various stakeholders about improvements to student safety and one area is nighttime safety.
I’ll continue to work and advocate for
the student academic experience. Working to ensure students receive the service they expect, ensuring academic integrity is upheld, making sure students know who they can contact for support, whether this is with personal concerns, assignment/exam concerns, or something else. Students should be able to access resources and facilities that enhance their learning experience, whether this is library books, digital or classrooms resources. Building on work this year, I’d continue to push the university to expand their resource provision to maximise students’ learning experiences.
Your university experience is all about you!
If elected, I will push for better student support through the Student Union, university counselling, and an improved Bucks Buddy system. Right now, these services exist but aren’t effective enough. I will advocate for structured reintegration plans, including one-on-one tutorials with lecturers and SU representatives to ease students back into learning. The Bucks Buddy system needs to be revamped so that students are paired with someone in their own class who can offer real academic and emotional support. Additionally, time-out rooms should be clearly advertised and easily accessible without needing
permission to access the rooms, making them a safe space for students whenever they need them.
Mental health support must be proactive, not just reactive. I will work towards helping to create group counselling sessions focused on common struggles like anxiety, reducing the overwhelming waitlist for one-on-one counselling. Even a weekly or biweekly session could provide students with a sense of community and encouragement to return to campus. No student should feel isolated or left behind due to circumstances beyond their control. Education should never come at the cost of your health.
Supporting You Through BNU
Hi, I’m Dan, a third year Film and Tv Production student. I currently hold the role of Chair of the Athletic Union Council as well as being the Chair of Men’s Hockey, and a member of Volleyball, Cricket and Film Society. Being a part of these have allowed me to get to know the Union more, as well as meeting many students throughout, and now I want to give back to everyone.
I am running for VPEW (HW) to make sure that everyone receives the level of support they need, both academically and for their wellbeing. My goal is to build and reflect on my own personal experiences at university, along with a range of students’ individual experiences.
These will focus my efforts on ensuring everyone receives support in both their welfare, and education, whilst also giving everyone a voice in the direction of their course. I am a big advocate for mental health awareness and wellbeing, so I want to be a friendly face for people to talk to about any worries or issues.
As your VPEW, my aims are:
• Launch a campaign promoting responsible drinking, and avoiding alcohol consumption as a coping method, suggesting alternative ways people can deal with issues.
• Work with the VPAB, along with the sports clinic, to encourage looking
after our bodies after suffering an injury, whilst offering advice for mental health maintenance for those affected by them.
• Pressure the university to ensure that student’s education is shaped around practicality, based on where some modules are taught, also making sure that the content being learnt is also relevant to their degree.
I want everyone to have the education and support they deserve, so I aim to build on Harry’s work from this year and keep the progress going!
The Vice President Education and Welfare (High Wycombe) is responsible for improving the educational experience of all students at BNU, based at the High Wycombe campus. They are one of the principal course representatives for the Union and assume responsibility for the Union’s input into the University’s system of student representation.
You Matter at BNU.
My name is Erin, a third year Acting student, and I am running to be your next Vice President Education and Welfare for High Wycombe.
My main campaign idea is to aim for better safety for all students. I would like to be VPEW (HW) because I would I aim to help everyone prevent unsafe situations and learn how to protect themselves. Mindfulness is a big thing when it comes to safety, but I would also like self-defence classes for students. I would like a better communication
Your Voice Matters
University should be an exciting and fulfilling experience for all students, but challenges like poor accommodation, financial pressures, and a lack of support can make it overwhelming. As your Vice President for Education and Welfare, I will work to ensure every student feels safe, supported, and heard.
As the current Welfare Liaison for men’s rugby, I have first-hand experience providing mental health support and guidance, ensuring my teammates have a safe and open environment to talk about their struggles. I want to bring this same commitment to student welfare on a wider scale, making sure no one feels alone during their university journey.
If I am elected to be your vice president of education and welfare, I will focus on the safety and sustainability towards students and staff. I would like to push to ensure that the safety of both the students and staff is maintained. As we know, the SSHH (Safe Students, Happy Homes) bus operates after some events; I would make sure it is available after all events. I would also like to push that it doesn’t just drop off at Hughenden Halls, Brook Street Halls and Windsor House, I’d like to extend this to main student roads and external accommodations such as:

A little about me. I am the Performance School Officer, and I have had some very amazing opportunities to work closely
Better Student Accommodation
• Push for higher standards in university and private accommodations, ensuring they are safe, affordable, and well-maintained.
• Demand greater transparency in rent pricing and fairer contracts to protect students from unfair housing practices.
• Expand financial support options for students struggling with rent and living costs.
Prioritizing Mental Health & Support Services

• Promote mental health awareness
• Hughenden Road
• Roberts Road
• Suffield Road
• Kitchener Road
• Dashwood Avenue
• Old Clock Tower
• London House
• Draler House
On top of this, I would also try to ensure that staff are able to get home after these events as well, and make it so that the SSHH bus runs for staff working these events to ensure they get home safe.

and safety initiatives, ensuring students know where and how to seek support.
Enhancing the Student Experience
• Ensure student voices are heard on academic and welfare concerns, working for real improvements.
• Advocate for more affordable food options, financial aid, and cost-ofliving support on campus.
• Expand wellbeing initiatives and social inclusion programs, helping students feel part of a community.
With my experience and passion for student welfare, I am dedicated to creating a university environment where everyone can thrive. Vote John Heatley for Vice President – Education and Welfare, and let’s work together for a better student experience!
#YourVoiceMatters #John4VPEW
I would also like to put into place a location in the university where people can donate dried food so that more monthly meal packages are available and try and make it a more recurrent amenity. On top of that I will strive for cooking lessons to become available for both students and staff to attend so they can gain more skills in cooking on a budget if they haven’t learnt how to cook or are struggling to know what to cook. This way students can also be healthier in what they are cooking and not so restricted to basic meals that they eat a lot.
Supporting Your Journey, Shaping Your Future.
