Hello everyone!

The next few weeks are shaping up to be a big and exciting time on campus, with plenty going on for everyone to get involved in.

Varsity is just around the corner, taking place at home on Sunday 8 March and Wednesday 11 March. Having Varsity on home ground makes it even more special, and it’s a great opportunity to get out, support our teams, and be part of one of the biggest events in the student calendar. Whether you’re playing, supporting from the sidelines, or just soaking up the atmosphere, Varsity is always something to look forward to.

Alongside Varsity, elections season is now underway. Nominations are open for Elected Officer roles, as well as Trustee and Committee positions. If you’ve ever thought about representing students, shaping decisions, or getting more involved in University life, this is your chance. Nominations for Elected Officer roles close on Friday 13 February at noon, so don’t leave it too late if you’re considering putting yourself forward.

With everything going on, it’s also important to take a moment to look after yourself and the people around you. Check in with yourself, check in with your mates, and remember that support is always available if you need it. The Advice Centre is there for any kind of support, whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, unsure, or just need someone to talk things through with.

Finally, make sure you’re keeping an eye on the What’s On page for all the amazing events and activities coming up over the next few weeks. There’s plenty happening across campus, and it’s a great way to stay connected and involved.

There’s a lot to look forward to — get involved where you can, support each other, and make the most of what’s coming up.

Editors update!

I hope everyone has had a good first month back at Uni and that you’ve settled in well to the routine of it all.

I’m Ethan (he/him) the editor for the student newspaper.

I find that after the first month back everything seems to calm down as you get used to it, the build-up to assignments isn’t too soon, class introductions become familiar and you now know how to be both productive and relaxed in your free time.

The weather is as always very rainy and cold for this month so be sure to keep dry and warm and be safe on the roads due to limited visibility that the rain may cause.

Be sure to keep a look out for events the Uni has to offer at The Venue as they can really make a night out both safe and fun with many events such as Karaoke Nights and themed club nights like the Wild West, my personal favourites are Emo Night and Bingo Lingo!

Ethan Musgreaves Student Editor

To help support your studies, take advantage of the facilities such as the library and many online apps that are free with your Uni student ID.

As well as night life events, the Uni also has the Varsity event coming up in March so be sure to grab your tickets for that whilst they’re still available!

Remember to also take care of your health too, both physically and mentally as classes, lectures and upcoming assignments can take a toll on your health, so whilst being productive with your studies, also make sure to take the time to relax and do things you enjoy for a good Uni and life balance.

Overall, I hope you all have a good rest of the month and remember to enjoy yourselves too! Take advantage of the Uni facilities and social life and I hope you all do well for any assignments coming up!

Varsity means so much to me as a player because it brings together competition, community, and pride in representing our university. From my first impressions, Varsity felt like an incredible opportunity to meet new people, support one another, and be part of something bigger than just your own sport. As someone who plays netball, I love the social side of sport and helping everyone feel welcome and included. As Varsity Captain, Leo and I want to make Varsity more inclusive by creating a real build-up to the event, with fun activities that bring different clubs together. Our goal is to make the university feel more united — like one big family — and create the best possible atmosphere for Varsity this year.

Leo Spinks

Varsity means a lot to me as a player and it’s the highlight of the year for me, I remember playing in my first varsity and playing in front of such large crowds filled with my mates was quite the experience. Also watching and supporting my friends is always great. Winning away from home last year was also amazing but this year is the most important one to me because it’s my last varsity and being the football first team captain as well as varsity captain makes this the most important varsity by far.

MY EXPERIENCE OF VARSITY

With Varsity 26 just around the corner, it brings me back to the time when I was a student and what it was like to spectate and compete. Watching the highs of results coming in and putting everything on the line to showcase your best version of yourself in front of your friends and the wider university.

My first-year Varsity was full of wonderful memories, bringing home exactly what it meant to not just myself, but also the whole student body. Seeing the pride of those representing Bucks. Supporting as many teams as possible throughout the day, including the headline fixture going to see rugby – where the chants, high intense atmosphere and togetherness shone through. The night culminated in the Varsity afterparty, with students from both universities joining in celebrating a well contested, jam packed sporting day.

My second-year Varsity was where I first represented my teams and clubs. Bucks FC and Futsal. The futsal result was an emphatic win for my futsal team, captaining them in the process and giving us a lead going into the Wednesday. We put in a solid performance away from home with my Bucks FC 4’s team, but unfortunately didn’t get the win we hoped for. This didn’t stop us from getting out, enjoying the day, and supporting all the teams we could on the day. Heading back for another Varsity afterparty.

My third year as a student was hit by covid so took away the opportunity to participate again. However, that wasn’t the last involvement I would have with Varsity. Since working for the union, I have seen us win two more Varsity’s (two in a row), being part of the hard work needed in delivering the event and understanding what it takes to put on an amazing event like Varsity. Nothing brings me more pride as a member of this organisation and as the Activities Coordinator for Competitive Sport than seeing the joy, determination, and sheer elation the students have after they have competed and given their all. Celebrating their teams, their efforts and sharing it with their university peers.

FROM PITCH, TO PITCH SIDE, TO PLANNING.

Varsity has been one of the defining parts of my university experience, and over the years I’ve been lucky enough to see it from more than one perspective — as a player and as a sports therapist. Each year brought something completely different, but every experience reinforced why Varsity means so much to so many of us.

My first taste of Varsity came in 2022, and it’s a feeling I’ll never forget. Walking out to play in front of such a huge crowd, with hundreds of people cheering you on, was surreal. The nerves, the adrenaline, the noise — it all hit at once. It made every moment feel bigger and more intense than any game I’d played before. What made it even more special was that I’d only recently returned from a knee injury, so just being back on the pitch in that environment felt like a huge personal achievement.

In 2023, Varsity took us away to Roehampton, and that year stands out as my favourite. The conditions couldn’t have been tougher — pouring rain from start to finish — but that somehow made the game even more memorable. It was a tight contest, with us grinding out an 8–5 win, and it was one of those matches where everything came down to teamwork and trust. That day, more than any other, felt like a true collective effort, where everyone dug in for each other and pulled through together.

Another year, I experienced Varsity from the other side of the touchline while working pitch side as a sports therapist at the rugby. Seeing it as a spectator, while still being right in the middle of the action, gave me a completely new appreciation for the occasion. I still felt the buzz, the tension, and the excitement — just with a different responsibility. Supporting players, reacting to injuries, and sharing those moments from a professional standpoint showed me how much goes on behind the scenes to make Varsity what it is.

Varsity will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s about more than just the results or the rivalry — it’s about teamwork, hard work, resilience, and sharing unforgettable moments with your mates. Whether you’re playing, supporting, or working behind the scenes, Varsity has a way of bringing everyone together, and I’ll always be grateful for the memories it’s given me.

BADMINTON

Promising 2nd half of the season for badminton

Bucks badminton is heading into the final stretch of the season with momentum building across both squads and excitement growing ahead of Varsity.

The men’s team currently sit third in the league, following a series of strong performances in the first half of the season. With only three fixtures remaining, and two of those at home, the team is well placed to finish the campaign on a high.

Consistent results and improved match performances have kept them firmly in the league’s upper ranks.

The women’s team have also had plenty to celebrate this year, marking a highly encouraging return after several years without a competitive squad. In their first season back, the team has impressed with strong performances and steady improvement, proving they can compete confidently within the league.

Attention is now beginning to turn towards Varsity, the biggest fixture of the year. With rivalry on the line, Varsity squads are being confirmed as preparations step up for the highly anticipated clash against Roehampton.

BASKETBALL

All Eyes on the Court as Varsity Basketball Tips Off

Varsity basketball is set to make a powerful return on 11 March as both the men’s and women’s basketball teams headline a highly anticipated showdown against Roehampton at Wycombe Leisure Centre. Everyone is encouraged to come down early, fill the stands, and bring the noise.

This year’s fixture is particularly special. For the first time in years, the women’s basketball team will compete in Varsity alongside the men’s team, marking a major milestone for the programme. The women’s side enters the spotlight with a refreshed squad, featuring new faces eager to rise to the challenge and make their mark on one of the biggest stages of the season. Both teams have been training relentlessly in preparation for the clash, with weeks of intense sessions, tactical work, and team building ensuring every player is ready to perform when it matters most. The dedication and commitment shown across both squads reflects just how much this Varsity means.

For the senior players, Varsity carries even greater significance. Having been through the experience before, we know it is far more than just another game and for some players, their last. It is the fixture that defines seasons and creates memories that last long after the final buzzer. Varsity is about pride, rivalry, and earning the bragging rights that echo across campus for the rest of the year—and even beyond university. Those rights aren’t just won on the scoreboard; they’re carried into every conversation, every training session, and every reminder of who came out on top.

Experience brings a different level of understanding to Varsity. Knowing the pressure, the noise, and the intensity of the occasion helps shape how you approach the game, but it also brings responsibility. Senior players set the tone, keep composure in highpressure moments, and help newer players embrace the atmosphere rather than be overwhelmed by it. Varsity is emotional, exhausting, and unforgettable, but that is exactly what makes it so special. It is not just a game—it is a legacy moment for everyone who steps onto the court.

With pride, rivalry, and bragging rights on the line, the atmosphere promises to be electric. Supporters play a huge role in Varsity, and both teams will be counting on a loud home crowd to push them over the line. So, mark your calendars, wear your colours, and come down to Wycombe Leisure Centre on 11 March to cheer on both the men’s and women’s basketball teams as they take on Roehampton in what promises to be an unforgettable Varsity night.

GEAR UP FOR COMP SEASON WITH BNU DANCE

I am excited for the opportunity to compete in Varsity and I am looking forward to the event.

Being part of Dance has become such an important part of my university experience. Being involved in BNU Dance this year has been an incredible journey and has allowed me to grow both technically and creatively as a dancer. Since joining, I have gained confidence in my ability and developed a deeper passion for dance whilst also showing my support to other members of the club.

One of the most special parts of BNU Dance has been the friendships I have made with people from different courses and year groups. These connections have created a strong sense of belonging and support, both inside and outside the studio.

To me, BNU Dance truly feels like a family, something that is especially clear within the jazz and contemporary teams I am proud to be part of. The encouragement, teamwork, and shared commitment within these teams inspire me every session and motivate me to continue working hard, growing, and representing BNU Dance to the best of my ability.

FOOTBALL (MEN’S)

Varsity is one of the most rewarding parts of university sport, it’s more than a series of matches it’s pride, commitment and playing for the Bucks emblem.

I remember Varsity being the hot topic in my first training session with Bucks FC, older boys sharing stories that will stay with them a lifetime and us freshers just letting it all soak in, the excitement already building amongst us, 6 months early. Every training session from then leads to Varsity, a day that you put it all on the line, not just for the team but for the club and University.

The atmosphere for my first Varsity was unmatched, with supporters from every section of the Uni cheering you on. A friendly but competitive match, which only made the point that Bucks FC 1s earnt that much more special.

For me, Varsity is the one event of the year that’s focused on all year round, a driving point for success throughout the BUCS season and hopefully a trophy to round the year off.

UP THE BUCKS!

FOOTBALL (WOMEN’S)

MAKE HISTORY WITH US AT VARSITY!

This year is my final season with Bucks WFC and my time at the Bucks Students’ Union. Getting involved has truly created life-long memories; I’ve met amazing people I plan to stay connected with post-university. These past 3 years have flown by. I joined the club in October 2023, when I first started uni, after a long break from football, stepping in to help the team. I’m grateful for the warm welcome.

Winning every league game last year and securing promotion was unforgettable, and finishing the season with an exciting Varsity victory was a highlight. I’ll miss the adrenaline from walking onto the pitch to hearing everyone chant “Bucks New Uni Da Da Da Da!”. I highly recommend joining a sports team or participating in Varsity to create your own memorable experiences. Varsity is an amazing event to get involved with. It’s not just day of competitive sports, it’s a day where 2 universities get together and share their strengths and skills with a love for what they do.

HOCKEY (MEN’S)

Varsity is one of those experiences you can’t describe with words. The anticipation, the hype, the atmosphere, nothing else throughout my time at university has come close to this! I’ve played in two, and come up to my third, and I’m looking forward to facing Roey again.

It’s always a great way to the end the season, with us winning our last two. The game is always completely unpredictable, which in a sense adds to how amazing it feels if you do come out with a win! Last year we turned up to Roey on a high, after finishing 2nd in the league and getting promotion. Whilst the game was on a knife edge for large portions, we showed our winning spirit, scoring three late goals, whilst the defence remained as solid as ever! I truly believe that the crowd got us over the line, with a large backing, even outnumbering Roehampton despite being away!

As we play on the Sunday, we all get together and support the other teams, knowing that we’ve played our part. We can’t wait to get back at it this year, as a mixed team with women’s hockey, and cheer on all of our other clubs too!

NETBALL

Varsity last year was the standout time for sport. Everyone coming together to celebrate success and play the sport we love was unbelievable. From supporters to players who make the atmosphere come alive, to everyone rushing off to support the next sport, Varsity makes our Student Union. As a first-year netballer last year, I didn’t know what to expect, especially away to Roey, but I wasn’t disappointed! The lead up with the girls was incredible. From training sessions, to organising face paint and drinks for the day, they gave me every reason to believe that not only netball, but the University, were going to win. The day itself was incredible with Netball 2’s getting half a point and Netball 1’s winning, completing a brilliant season. The support was awesome, making the day very special and it was definitely one of my highlights in my first year.

Varsity Captains Abbie and Leo have done a fantastic job in promoting the event. Setting challenges, coming to netball sessions, and supporting us to win, it definitely helps us gain momentum going into the day. I’m so excited for Varsity again this year, and with a home crowd, it’s going to be amazing! I would encourage everyone to go.

VOLLEYBALL (MEN’S)

Last year’s Varsity was one of the most defining experiences of my university life. From the first preseason session to the final whistle, the journey demanded discipline, resilience, and trust, both in myself and in my teammates. Every early morning training session and late night recovery felt purposeful, building toward something bigger than any individual performance.

Varsity match days themselves were unforgettable. The day starts early, with a mix of nerves and excitement setting in long before the first serve. Team meals, walkthroughs, and quiet moments to focus are balanced with laughter and music as we prepare together. By the time we step onto the court, the atmosphere is electric, driven by supporters, teammates, and the pride of representing the university.

Our final match captured the season perfectly. After a fiercely contested battle, we secured a 3–2 victory that tested us mentally as much as physically, contributing to the university’s overall varsity win.

Now, heading into this season as captain of the men’s team, I feel excited and humbled. Leading this group motivates me to set standards, support my teammates, and build on the culture that made last year so special.

VOLLEYBALL (WOMEN’S)

Bucks New Women’s End League on a High — Varsity Next!

The Bucks New Women’s team wrapped up their league season in the best way possible: with wins. Finishing strong and full of confidence, the victorious team now turns its attention to what comes next — Varsity.

It wasn’t the easiest start to the season. A new year brought new talent, new combinations, and plenty of work to build chemistry and teamwork. Early fixtures came thick and fast, and results didn’t always reflect the effort being put in on and off the court. But this squad never dropped their heads. Instead, they dug in, backed each other, and trusted the process — and that belief paid off in a big way. The season ended with back-to-back wins, bringing the total to three league victories and highlighting just how much this team has grown. The final games were packed with energy, grit, and some seriously exciting play. Defensive shape was sharp, transitions were quick, and attacking play was full of confidence and creativity. Most importantly, the team played with freedom and belief — and it showed. Those final wins weren’t just about points. They were about momentum. They showed that Bucks New Women’s are a side that learns fast, competes hard, and finishes stronger than they start. Every player played their part, whether through performances on the pitch or by pushing standards in training, making this a season to be proud of.

And now… Varsity awaits.

All eyes turn to our upcoming varsity clash against Roehampton, a team we know well after a tight, competitive encounter earlier this season. That game proved exactly what we’re capable of — and with confidence high and momentum firmly on our side, there’s real belief within the squad that this is a game we can win. Varsity is about more than just the result. It’s about pride, intensity, and playing for each other — and this Bucks side is more than ready.

Expect noise. Expect passion. Let’s go, Bucks!!!

January President Update

121 VC:

Continue to hold our regular monthly meeting with the Vice-Chancellor, and our working relationship grows stronger and more positive over time. These meetings provide a valuable space to share detailed feedback and discuss improvements in an effective and constructive way. In February, I will be attending the University Council Board alongside a small group of students to discuss the future of our university, which I am very much looking forward to.

WIFI UPDATE:

Wifinity carried out a full health check of the on-site network, identifying one area (Frost) that was not behaving as expected; however, this may not have impacted student connectivity and was resolved during the engineer’s visit. No issues were found across other locations in relation to speed, RSSI, latency, or the captive portal To improve reporting, Wifinity has introduced a new leaflet with a QR code for students to contact them directly and will be piloting a troubleshooting form as an additional

contact method, with a go-live date to be confirmed. If there are any ongoing concerns, students are encouraged to contact me or the Wifinity customer support team directly.

ADVANCE HE CONFERENCE:

I attended the second session of the Student Governors programme run by Advance HE in London. The session was engaging and vibrant, and it provided a valuable opportunity to share experiences and express perspectives alongside other Students’ Union governors. The discussions focused on the impact we can collectively make within our institutions, and the session offered meaningful insight into strengthening student representation at governance level.

ACCOMMODATION AND RENT:

I have been closely involved in the recent accommodation audit, which progressed very smoothly. Alongside this, I have worked closely with the Accommodation team to ensure students are well supported around renters’ rights, particularly in light of the new changes coming into effect this year. The team is very keen to help students, including offering support with reviewing contracts

and providing advice on renting-related issues. Please do not hesitate to reach out to them if you need any support or guidance.

REFRESHERS’ FAIR:

It was great to meet so many new students at the Refreshers’ Fairs across Uxbridge and High Wycombe, and to see such a wide range of amazing stalls on offer. The atmosphere on both campuses was vibrant and energetic, with societies and student groups bringing real enthusiasm and creativity to the space, making it a welcoming and exciting experience for everyone involved.

OFS CONSUMER RIGHTS:

The Office for Students (OfS) recently held a meeting focused on consumer rights in higher education. Some of the key issues raised included contract language being difficult to understand, inconsistencies in how universities and colleges structure their contracts, and challenges for students in locating key documents. I am keen to explore this area further and plan to launch a student survey later in the year to better understand these issues from a student perspective. The date for this is to be confirmed.

Varsity 2026

Varsity season is nearly here, and the excitement is starting to build across campus. This year’s Varsity will take place on Sunday 8 March and Wednesday 11 March, and even better, it’s happening at home!

With home advantage on our side, we’re really hoping to see as many students as possible out supporting our teams. Varsity is about more than just the sport itself, it’s the atmosphere, the rivalry, and that shared sense of pride that brings everyone together, whether you’re competing, cheering from the sidelines, or just soaking it all in.

In the lead-up to Varsity, keep an eye out around the university for all the promotional activity taking place. We’ll also be hosting a week-long exhibition in the Winter Garden, featuring photos and quotes from previous years and players. It’s a great chance to see what Varsity has meant to students over the years and what makes it such a special part of university life.

Vice President Achievement and Belonging

Once the fixtures are wrapped up, the celebrations don’t stop there. The Varsity after party will be one not to miss, with Dick and Dom heading up a live DJ set to round off the action. Whether you’ve been competing or supporting, it’s the perfect way to come together and celebrate the week.

Alongside all the Varsity build-up, student elections are also coming up for both Elected Officer and Student Voice Officer roles. If you’ve ever considered getting involved, representing students, or helping shape change on campus, now’s a great time to find out more. If you have any questions about the roles, feel free to pop into the Students’ Union office or drop me a message. I’d be more than happy to help.

Varsity is one of the highlights of the student calendar, and with it being at home this year, it’s a real chance to make it something special.

The MOST money a student has saved!

Ellie has been one of the most engaged students within the Students’ Union through her years here at BNU. In her first year she joined two societies, worked on the bar, became a student rep and attended many training sessions. After her first year, she carried on with the societies, student rep, but she also joined the committee for one society, joined the Leadership Academy, became a Fresher Helper and NUS delegate. By her third year she was still doing all the above, but added Student Trustee, School Officer, Head Fresher Helper, MT Secretary and MT captain to the list.

Ellie is still a student doing her master’s degree at the moment, and she is MT chair, Student Voice Officer, Student Rep, School Officer, Head Fresher Helper, Bar Staff, Course Rep, Student Trustee. She is also regularly partaking in training for all that she is doing. This is helping her to become the most employable person as she has such a wide breadth of skills from every co-curricular activity she has done at university.

So far, we estimate that Ellie has saved around £2,420 from participating in Union activities (not including free food). If she was seeking these opportunities at other institutions or outside of university, then she would likely have spent this money out of her own pocket!

Bucks Students’ Union provide The Big Deal for FREE so more students are given opportunities that they may not be able to get elsewhere due to money constraints.

To find out what you can get involved in for FREE, head to our website where you can find every single opportunities we have available for students or pop us an email on: sutraining@bnu.ac.uk and we can see if we can point you in the right direction.

“Being able to participate in the big deal has allowed me to have unlimited access to so many opportunities that have shaped the co-curricular university student experience, where each pathway has brought many valuable benefits to progressing through the student journey.

Among my favourites have been getting involved in our student leadership programme and attending additional training skills and activities to gain those all-important transferable skills”

FREE FOOD

The Big Bucks Meal Deal

A project derived from the cost-of-living campaign run by Bucks Students’ Union to make sure you are fed and well. The campaign aims to tackle food poverty within the student community at BNU by cutting the prices of food in our cafés. This is all funded and supported by BNU and delivered by Bucks Students’ Union.

Free breakfast (Uxbridge)

Free lunch (Aylesbury)

Head to the main reception/security desk in Aylesbury to grab your free lunch. You can collect this every Monday and Tuesday (11.45am-2pm) during term-time. Included in the lunch is a pot noodle, packet of crisps and a bottle of water.

Free dinner (High Wycombe)

Head over to The Lounge in The Venue for free dinner Tuesday and Thursday (5-7pm), and Sunday (6-7.30pm) during term-time. Each week there will be a different dish on offer, all Halal and packed full of healthy ingredients to keep you going through the week.

Free food is first come first served, and all you need to bring is your student ID and a good appetite.

International Student Voice Officer: Newsletter Update

Hi everyone,

My name is Ritamary Benny, and I am the Student Voice Officer representing International Students. I hope you’re all doing well and settling into the term. I wanted to take a moment to share some updates on recent activities, ongoing support, and upcoming plans for our international students.

Decluttering Advent Calendar –December Update

In December, we successfully ran the Decluttering Advent Calendar, and we’re really grateful to everyone who contributed. The items collected will soon be put out in the BUCKS NEW USAGE for students to access and make use of.

We’ve also received a large number of clothes through this initiative. I’ll be working closely with Kerri Bowen to explore the best ways we can reuse and distribute these items so they benefit students as much as possible.

Upcoming Events for International Students

We’re currently planning some exciting events just for international students:

• Party Night – Mollywood and Kollywood Night

A fun cultural celebration with music, dance, and good vibes!

• International Students

Sports Day

Housing and Rentals Support

I’ve also been able to support many students in finding rentals and housing, with the help of private landlords and families from the church community.

This support has helped:

• Students newly arriving from India, and

• Students who were already in the UK but struggling to find accommodation.

I’m really happy we could make a difference here.

Collaborations and Student Ideas

Going forward, I’m planning to collaborate with other Student Voice Officers to run more campaigns and initiatives that support students.

If you have any ideas, concerns, or things you’d like to see happening, please don’t hesitate to reach out to ritamary.benny@bnu.ac.uk. We’d love to hear from you and work together.

Thank you for being such a supportive and amazing community

Let’s keep building this together!

Ritamary Benny

Personal Safety tips for students

With the 2026 University term starting, the Buckinghamshire Community Safety team would like to take the opportunity to provide you with some top tips to help you feel safe when you are out and about both on and off campus.

It is important you feel safe travelling to and from campus alone all year round, however darkness can increase feelings of concern.

Our tips for getting home safe, whether you are walking, driving or taking public transportation:

• Stay alert – awareness is your best defense.

• Try to stay in well-lit areas when walking.

• Act confident – even if you don’t feel it.

• When walking, take the most direct route home.

• Trust your instincts – if you think something is wrong, act on it.

• Have your keys available when you reach your home or car.

• Carry a personal alarm and use it when necessary.

• Travel with a trusted friend/colleague where possible.

• Tell someone you trust when you are setting off on your journey home and when you arrive safely.

There are several apps which can be downloaded for added reassurance; they allow you to instantly contact loved ones if you are concerned and will equally let them know where you are on your journey and/or when you have arrived home safely. WalkSafe, Get Your Coat, Life 360 and Hollie Guard just to name a few.

POSITIVITY

“Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you’ll start having positive results.”
Willie Nelson

Introduction to Bucks Tabletop and Gaming

Bucks Tabletop and Gaming is a society that runs two sessions each week, which each have a different focus.

Our Tuesday sessions focus on our vast collection of tabletop games, such as One Night Werewolf, Exploding Kittens, Secret Hitler, Monopoly and Cards Against Humanity. We also set up a room for people to play console games on our society switch and their own consoles they can bring along. This runs from 5pm to 8pm in N3.08.

Our Wednesday sessions focus on playing Dungeons and Dragons in short adventures called One Shots. These One Shots are run by volunteer Dungeon Masters; with whoever runs each week changing. We post sign ups to these games every week several days in advance on our Discord server, which you can join using the link on our mini site on the Student Union website. You don’t need to know how to play Dungeons and Dragons to join us, our friendly DMs and players are willing to help to you learn, or even bring anything aside from a phone or laptop. These sessions start at 4pm, with the games starting at 5pm at the latest, and then ending late in the evening. Our main room for this is N4.04.

Bucks Tabletop and Gaming is also excited to announce the return of 24hour Game-A-Thon for its fourth year. From 5pm on Thursday the 26th of February to 5pm on Friday the 27th of February, we will be hosting the event in the Venue. There will be tons of games to play freely including every tabletop game we own and every game on our switch. We also plan to have several scheduled events such as a Super Smash Bros tournament, a movie, movie, Mario Kart tournament, Just Dance and Jackbox. Join our Discord to stay up to date on the details.

At Bucks Musical Theatre Society, we’ve always been able to pride ourselves on providing members an excellent insight into the theatre industry: whether through a professional lens or simply for fun! We’ve kicked 2026 off with a bang by offering our members two masterclasses in our first month back!

On the 12th January, we were kindly joined by Joe Thompson-Oubari, who recently finished playing the role of ‘Boq’ in the West End cast of ‘Wicked’, with other credits including Footballer’s Wives: The Musical (Studio Cast Album), Roger and Hammerstein’s Cinderella (Cadogan Hall) and the Stand Up Sketch Show (ITV). Our members took part in a dance-themed workshop to songs

Masterclass Galore at Bucks Musical Theatre!

from ‘Wicked’, followed by a Q&A so members had the opportunity to ask Joe anything that intrigued them about the industry.

On the 2nd February, we were also delighted to have held a vocal coach singing masterclass with our very own Bucks MT alumni, Marissa Leyden! Marissa was the society’s first Social Secretary in 2022/23, followed by being appointed Chair of the society in 2023/24. She was awarded the Union Award of Committee Member of the Year for her outstanding contributions to Bucks MT! It was amazing to welcome Marissa back to the society!

As well as hosting industry-professional masterclasses (with more planned for the future!) we have been hard at work beginning rehearsals for our Summer Showcase in the third term, and are returning to perform for residents at Ryeview Care Home on the 18th February! It’s not too late to get involved: please feel free to email

bucksmtsociety@hotmail.com if you have any questions, or pop down to one of our sessions! We hold sessions every Monday between 7:30-9pm in Drama Studio 2!
