A MOMENT FOR TOMORROW: BUCKLAND CARE TIME CAPSULES
Across Buckland Care, our homes have been busy creating something truly special - time capsules filled with memories, messages, and little treasures from life in 2025
At The Firs, residents were joined by the Town Mayor, Penny Lewis, and local school pupils to seal a capsule filled with poems, photos, and newspaper clippings - all shared over sunshine and cream teas.
Over at Kingland House, the team gathered keepsakes, handwritten letters, and photographs that tell the story of daily life in the home. Together, they paused to reflect on the moments that truly matter and sealed them safely away for the future
The Orchards took the same thoughtful approach, choosing items that represent life at the homefrom handwritten notes and photos to a copy of their activity calendar and the local newspaper The capsule was buried in the garden with smiles and a few happy tears
And at Hartwell Lodge, residents and staff created a beautiful mix of crafts, an autumn menu, a “Hello to 2035” letter, and words from both staff and residents describing what makes their home so special The moment was shared with families and local friendsa memory in itself to be treasured
Each capsule has now been carefully sealed and tucked safely away, ready to be opened in 2035. We can only imagine the joy and curiosity when they’re unearthed again - and the stories they’ll tell about our homes, our people, and the care that comes from the heart.
At Buckland Care, we believe every moment tells a story -and these capsules are our way of saying, “We were here We cared And we made memories worth keeping”
We’re thrilled to share that the team at Inglefield has been reaccredited with the prestigious Gold Standards Framework Quality Hallmark Award –achieving the highest possible Platinum status!
FOR END-OF-LIFE CARE
This incredible recognition is a testament to the team’s unwavering commitment to providing exceptional end-of-life care, ensuring that every resident receives compassion, dignity, and comfort through life’s most sensitive moments
Home Manager Charlotte Willis shared, “This award isn’t about us – it’s about the people in our care, and our commitment to walking with them, and their loved ones, through life’s most sensitive moments”

GENERATIONS CONNECT: KINGLAND HOUSE RESIDENTS
INSPIRE LOCAL CHILDREN WITH STORIES AND PEARLS OF WISDOM
As children across Poole prepared to head back to the classroom this September, residents at Kingland House were busy sharing their own treasured memories of school days – along with a few heartfelt tips for today’s pupils
The home invited residents to reminisce about their early school experiences. Stories flowed about slate boards, riding bikes to school, favourite teachers, and the joy of playing in the playground with friends.
Alongside these fond recollections, residents offered their pearls of wisdom for children starting or returning to school Advice ranged from practical reminders – such as “always get a good pair of shoes” – to words of encouragement like “treat it like an adventure”
Home Manager Tracy said: “It was lovely to hear our residents reflect on their own school days, and the advice they shared was full of warmth and encouragement The children of today face different challenges, but the importance of kindness, curiosity, and making friends is timeless”

Regular outings and animal therapy sessions play a vital role in supporting residents’ well-being across all Buckland Care homes These activities do more than simply provide enjoyment they help stimulate the mind, encourage gentle exercise, and bring comfort through shared experiences and the joy of companionship
At Buckland Care, every home aims to create opportunities like this, helping residents stay active, engaged, and connected to the world around them.
EMPOWER & GROW: HELPING OUR PEOPLE SHINE
At Buckland Care, Empower & Grow is more than a value – it’s a promise. A promise to every team member that their ideas matter, their growth matters, and their confidence matters. Because when people feel trusted and supported, they don’t just do their jobs – they thrive in them.
Empowerment doesn’t always look like grand promotions or new titles It’s often found in the smaller moments – when someone feels safe to speak up, try something new, or take the lead on an idea that lights them up That’s the kind of growth that changes not just careers, but whole teams
A Culture That Lifts People Up
Across Buckland Care, we see empowerment in action every day It’s the carer who’s encouraged to share a fresh idea for activities and ends up leading them with confidence It’s the kitchen assistant who’s supported to train as a chef, discovering a new sense of pride in their work It’s the new starter who’s gently guided by a mentor until the nerves fade and their natural warmth shines through
We’ve seen it in countless ways – and we make sure it doesn’t go unnoticed
That’s why the GEM Awards (Going the Extra Mile) are such a special part of our culture. They don’t just celebrate great care; they celebrate personal growth, initiative, and teamwork. Each nomination tells a story of someone stepping forward, taking ownership, and making a difference.
When someone wins a GEM Award, it’s not just a pat on the back. It’s a moment that says, “We see you. We believe in you. Well done”.
Growth That Feeds Confidence
At Willow Bank, Head Chef Liam’s creativity has flourished because he’s been empowered to experiment – from his much-loved “Taste of Home” menus to dementia-friendly dishes that bring comfort and connection That freedom to innovate didn’t just earn him national recognition; it inspired his whole team to see food as more than a meal, but as a way to spark joy and memories
At Inglefield Nursing Home, the team’s confidence and commitment led to achieving the prestigious Gold Standards Framework Quality Hallmark Award for end-of-life care That success came from empowering staff to use their judgement, share ideas, and develop their skills – knowing their input shapes the home’s success
And at West Bank, the culture of encouragement has created a team that families describe as “happy, caring, and dedicated” Their perfect 99 rating, out of 10, on Carehomecouk reflects not just their professionalism, but their pride -and that comes from feeling trusted and valued.
Growing Together
Empowerment isn’t only about professional development – it’s about personal growth too. We see it in the way people lift each other up, share knowledge, and support one another. When someone learns something new, everyone benefits When someone steps into their confidence, it shows in every smile and every interaction with residents
We’re proud that so many of our team members have grown with us – from care assistants to home managers, from kitchen porters to head chefs Each journey is proof that with belief, encouragement, and opportunity, people flourish
The Power of Trust
When we say Empower & Grow, we mean it We trust our people to make decisions, try new things, and be themselves Because that’s how confidence builds – one choice, one idea, one small act of courage at a time
Growth doesn’t happen in a straight line, and empowerment isn’t about perfection It’s about creating an environment where people feel supported to learn, stretch, and shine – knowing they’ve got a team behind them cheering them on. At Buckland Care, empowerment is how potential turns into purpose.
And growth? That’s what happens when people are given the freedom to be their best.
LIZZIE’S ARTISTIC PASSION AT WILLOW BANK
Since moving into Willow Bank in March 2023, Margaret affectionately known as Lizzie has filled our home with colour, creativity, and charm Born and raised in Handsworth, Birmingham, Lizzie’s life has always been rich with stories, family, and imagination Her lifelong curiosity about history, especially the Tudor period and King Henry VIII, once inspired her to trace her family roots all the way back to the 17th century!
A devoted wife to her husband John and loving mother to her daughters Sarah and Rebecca, Lizzie has always nurtured others first as a housewife, then as a nursery nurse Today, she continues to nurture in a different way through art
What began as a simple pastime has grown into a true passion. Whether painting the soft beauty of flowers or the thrilling drama of ships upon the sea, Lizzie pours her heart into every brushstroke. Each piece carries its own story, waiting for the eye of the beholder to discover its meaning.
BAKING JOY AT MULBERRY HOUSE
There was a wonderful aroma wafting through Mulberry House as the ladies rolled up their sleeves for a fun afternoon of baking! Mixing bowls, wooden spoons, and smiles filled the room as residents worked together to create delicious chocolate chip and blueberry muffins
Beyond the sweet treats, these moments mean so much more Baking encourages creativity, boosts confidence, and brings a real sense of purpose and togetherness
At Buckland Care, all our homes offer meaningful activities like this helping residents reconnect with hobbies and experiences they once loved before moving into care. Whether it’s baking, gardening, or painting, these moments bring comfort, joy, and a wonderful sense of familiarity
