Buben & Zorweg, known for its winders and luxurious wood cases, also makes clocks with tourbillons

ith the 2008 release of its Objects of Time limitededition models, Austrian-based Buben & Zorweg has sought to mix its watch winder technology with new ventures in clocks and watches.

The firm’s Time Mover intelligent watch winder, considered to be the company’s first milestone, is designed to combat standstill, which can result in a loss of precision and need for laborious repair work.This technology affords greater precision than the human wrist could during everyday wearing. Watches essentially enjoy perpetual motion with the Time Mover, providing comfor t with the knowledge that each watch in the collection is accurately set and ready to be worn. Within the collection are small four-piece sets to large, modular, multifunctional pieces. Whatever the size, each comes equipped with a user-friendly panel, easily operated via a cursor field and designed as a multi-lingual LCD display unit.

Clocks too The firm also presented the first table clock with a tourbillon in 2005. While tourbillons are noteworthy for their counteractive influence of gravity, they are par ticularly useful for clocks, in which the balance wheel is not subject to movement like that in a watch.

With the incorporation of a double tourbillon in 2007, Buben & Zorweg topped itself and others, making it the only serial clock manufacturer to dare, and achieve, such an ambitious project (made with the help of Austrian-based Richard and Maria Habring, who also own their own brand of watches called Habring2). Ever committed to innovation, the company eclipsed itself, once again, with its orbit tourbillon, featured in the Objet de Temps I and OdT II Orbit models, which achieves absolute precision derived from balancing of the minute hand.

The Vanguard Connoisseur has winders, a humidor and an eight-day German-made clock.

Objet de Temps II features a double tourbillon and houses twelve of the firm’s newest Time Mover winders. It also offers room for storing automatic watches and a humidor for cigar aficionados.

The collection, geared toward avid collectors, includes the Python, featuring a built-in humidor for the cigar-lover, a bar module for the sophisticated host, and weather module for the ever-prepared collector. Other models, such as the Treasury and Solitaire, offer watchmaking tools with precious Macassar handles as well as an integrated stereo system. The remaining models Vanguard, OdT II Mozart, Ellipse, and Grande Precision offer a unique mix of modules to fit a variety of collectors’ palettes.

Each has been tailored to fit well within the luxury ambi-

ence collectors typically desire. Models stand out with precious solid wood with up to ten layers of lacquer application, carefully selected veneers, fine leather, and gold-plated or chromiumplated hinges for added refinement. Buben & Zorweg subjects each masterpiece to 500 hours of excellence controls before it leaves the manufacturer.
