Alan Martin Annual Invitation Tournament 2018 Alan Martin was a founder Junior Leader with Mumbles Rangers and sadly died at a young age. Alan gave much of his time to help train children to play football and encouraged them to be proud to be a 'Mumbles Ranger'.

This invitation only festival is an annual event in our calendar and is held in Alans memory. Thank you for your support.

RESPECT Remember that players play football for their enjoyment not yours.

Be respectful and positive, treating others as they would wish to be treated.

Respect is part of the game and is fundamental to the FAW Fair Play Code Respect the decision of officials and teach young people to do the same.

Show respect for your team opponents, without them there would be no game.

Do not use foul language. Do not criticise the referee or players.

Respect the rights, dignity, and worth of all participants regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.

The following Competition Rules will apply. * Each age group will consist of 12 teams. Each group will be divided into two mini leagues of six teams. Each team squad can consist of up to 12 players, of which; for the Under 10’s and Under 11’s, 8 can play at any one time, for the Under 8’s and Under 9’s, 7 can play at any one time. * All substitutes can come on at any time with the referee’s permission. All players must play at least one half (or equivalent) per game. Teams cannot play any over age player. Proof of age/identification may be requested by other managers through the Festival referee. Where a Club enters more than one team players from one squad cannot transfer to another squad during the festival.

Match Rules * Each game to consist of two seven-minute half’s, with a two minute half time break. Normal Swansea Junior League mini football rules to apply * corners will be played, overhead throw-ins, * free kicks are all indirect and there will be no penalties awarded * all kick offs and restarts will be taken from the half way line, with opposition to be at least 3 yards away, * outfield players can go into the penalty area, * goal kicks will be taken from the penalty box line, * back passes to the goalkeeper are allowed, for balls which remain in play and are in the possession of the goalkeeper, (as per current Swansea Junior League Rules) the goalkeeper shall not kick the ball directly from their hands. They may throw the ball out, play the ball from feet or drop-kick it having allowed the ball to bounce first.

Progression to Semi-Finals & Final The top two teams from each group will progress to a semi-final based on the following: * The top teams in each section will be the teams with the most points. * If the teams are still level on points then goal difference will be taken into consideration. * If teams are still equal then the team with the highest number of goals will be the winner, * If there is still no outright winner the team who beat the other team will be declared the winner. * If still no winner a play-off match will be played, 3.5 minutes each way with sudden death goal. * No result, a penalty shoot-out will take place. Penalties being taken by only those players on the field at the end of the extra time. * If the scores are still tied after every player has taken a penalty then penalties continue on a sudden death basis.

The winner of Group 1 will play the runner-up of Group 2.

The winner of Group 2 will play the runner-up of Group 1.

The 2 resulting winning teams will play in the final.

Deciding a semi-final; The semi-final will play two x 7-minute halves, if the teams are level at the end of normal time then the progression to the final will be based on the following: * Following normal time two periods of 3.5 minutes shall be played, * If the scores are still tied then a penalty shoot-out will take place. Penalties being taken by only those players on the field at the end of the extra time. * If the scores are still tied after every player has taken a penalty then penalties continue on a sudden death basis.

Deciding the final; The final shall be decided on the same basis as the semi-finals.

The Match Referees decision is final on all matters of play and discipline during the match.

The Festival Referees decision will be final on all other matters.

Billy Johns BEM Founder of Mumbles Rangers Mumbles Rangers was founded in 1950 by Billy Johns and his story is one of great courage, of strength and of passion. Although Billy died in 1962 at the age of 33 his inspiration lives on.

Billy Johns health in the early years of his life deteriorated rapidly. The physical struggles diminished his energies to such an extent that by a very early age he was losing his mobility, and soon afterwards he found himself permanently confined to a wheelchair. For the remainder of his life he was to be virtually totally paralysed.

Despite his disability he was an inspiration to others. Billy had many friends, and Billy had a dream, he decided that rather than be led he would make, for him, the monumental effort to lead. His aims were clear, enjoyment for his friends, "his boys" through sporting and other activities and develop a friendship that knew no barriers. Billy's dream was of a club where he could gather around him hard working and committed officials who could nurture and foster its members, and together they could create something that was very "special."

Sixty seven years on there can be little doubt that Billy Johns' dream is very much alive. Billy's hopes and aspirations for the members of his club live on in the current players and officials and friends of the Mumbles Rangers of today. In spite of the fact that the majority of the clubs present members never had the privilege of knowing Billy Johns, all recognise the privilege of belonging to his club. The massive influence that he had upon all who came in contact with him all those years ago exists still to this day. It is an influence that all who have ever been associated with Mumbles Rangers will have experienced. If he had lived to witness the strength of the club today, his pride would have known no bounds. In the 1961 New Years Honours list Billy Johns was awarded the British Empire Medal.

Take a stroll through the woodland alongside Underhill Park and you will find a memorial erected to Billy Johns. The ‘Spirit of Billy Johns’
