Welcome to I BT!
The bright lights and soaring skyscrapers of the Big Apple set the stage for 2024 Gala Weekend where we celebrate the passion, ambition, and compassion of the BT community. We embrace the spirit of New York City - like the artists and innovators who have left their mark on its legendary streets, our students are unafraid to boldly express themselves and explore uncharted territory. They draw inspiration from a community that champions individuality and encourages them to make their voices heard.
It is my distinct honor to recognize Lori and David, ’81, Scott as this year’s Honorary Chairs. Together, Lori and David embody the spirit of service, generosity, and an enduring belief in the transformative power of education. Their contributions have had a profound and lasting impact on BT, paving the way for generations of students to pursue their dreams with confidence and determination. Please join me in expressing our deepest gratitude to Lori and David for their exceptional leadership, vision, and devotion to BT. They are truly deserving of this honor.
This unforgettable gala was brought to life through the remarkable efforts of the Gala Steering Committee, led by the visionary duo of Rhonda and Jeff Bishop and Valerie and Casey Garrigan. My deepest gratitude extends to the committee, volunteers, and BT staff who have poured their energy into making this weekend a resounding success.
Join me tonight, under the lights of the big city, where dreams take flight and ambition knows no bounds. Together, we celebrate the incredible potential of our students and the extraordinary individuals who guide them. Every bid, every raised paddle, directly empowers the young minds and dedicated educators of Brownell Talbot. Thank you for your generosity and for joining us on this exhilarating trip to the city that never sleeps!
Sincerely,
Kristi N. Gibbs, Ed.D. Head of School

Honorary Chairs Lori and David, ’81, Scott
Brownell Talbot is honored to recognize Lori and David, ’81, Scott as this year’s Honorary Chairs. The Scott family’s connection to BT spans decades, characterized by an unwavering commitment to supporting our faculty, staff, programs, and initiatives that uphold educational excellence.
David’s dedication began as a BT student and extended to serving as the first alumni president of the Board of Trustees for an impressive 10-year tenure. Lori’s involvement is equally steadfast, actively serving on the Board of Trustees for the past 13 years. Together, they chaired Gala in 2009, and David continues his leadership as chair of the Brownell Talbot Foundation Board.
Beyond BT, Lori dedicated over 20 years to the nonprofit sector, notably supporting youth and adults with disabilities. David, the president and CEO of Tetrad Corporation, has lent his expertise to several public and private boards while actively participating in numerous civic organizations within our community.
Throughout their children’s educational journeys at BTMadison, ’18, Kaitlyn, ’21, and Dylan, ’23, - the Scotts have embodied the “all in for BT” spirit. Their generosity of time, resources, and genuine care for our school community is an inspiration.
Please join us in expressing profound gratitude to Lori and David Scott for their exceptional leadership and enduring commitment to Brownell Talbot.

What I Learned from BT Robotics
"BT Robotics gave me the opportunity to get a hands-on experience of engineering. I learned how to problem solve and to keep an open mind for ideas from my teammates. Even today, I use my problem solving skills to resolve manufacturing issues on submarines."
LINDON LIU ’16
Mechanical Engineering, Northwestern University
"The robotics program at BT gave me an opportunity to explore my passions for engineering, taught me how to approach problems analytically, and gave me the confidence to major in engineering in college and pursue an engineering career."
JOSH RANDOLPH ’22
Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
"Robotics taught me so much about working on a team, time management, and problem solving.
All of these skills have been very helpful during college and internships. I made some of my closest friends through robotics, and many of my favorite memories of BT were at robotics competitions. BT robotics is the best!"

"If I were to sum up my experience in robotics, I would say that it was by far my favorite activity that I did in high school and that the skills that I developed through it were more than just engineering principles. I learned how to plan, be part of a team, and communicate: three skills which would be sorely lacking were I to have missed out on that experience."
CHRIS SCHINZEL ’22
Pre-med, University of Nebraska, Omaha
"Participating in Brownell Talbot's VEX Robotics program was the transformative spark that ignited my passion for innovation and engineering. When I look back, I realize that the countless hours tinkering and brainstorming in the robotics lab not only shaped my skills but molded my dreams, propelling me into the limitless expanse of possibility. Thank you, Brownell Talbot. Thank you, VEX Robotics."
CIARAN ROCHLING ’20
Mechanical Engineering; University of Colorado, Boulder
Robotics was one of my favorite activities at BT The excitement of having a new game to try and solve every year with my team was one of the highlights of every year. It was also my first taste of programming which I continue to do now.
JORDAN PROBY ’15
Computer Science, Cornell College
1028
"Robotics helped me learn critical thinking and problemsolving skills. It gave me practical and novel challenges that I could experiment and brainstorm to solve."
REID RISE ’15
Computer Engineering, University of Nebraska, Omaha
"Robotics was a great opportunity to get hands-on experience in different fields of engineering and it taught me so many skills that I rely on today! Whether it was collaborating in a team, learning how to continuously improve my work, or interviewing at competitions. I am currently able to tackle large-scale projects because of robotics."
