DENVER - Concordia-St. Paul (Minn.) third baseman Bryan Lippincott was selected as the 2012 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Central Region Player of the Year on Monday. Augustana (S.D.) righthander Derek Hansen joined him as the Central Region Pitcher of the Year and Minnesota State head coach was selected as the region’s coach of the year. Lippincott, a semifinalist for the Tino Martinez Award and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Year, batted .494 this season with 52 runs batted in, 49 runs scored, 19 doubles, 10 home runs and nine stolen bases for the Golden Bears. He also posted a .594 on-base percentage and .864 slugging percentage. The senior is a native of Des Moines, Iowa. Hansen, a junior from Fergus Falls, Minn., was the NSIC Pitcher of the Year. He is also a first team all-region selection as a utility player. Hansen went 7-4 with a 1.60 earned run average this season, striking out 103 batters in just 67.2 innings. Opponents were limited to a .181 batting average and he allowed just one home run all season. As a first baseman/designated hitter, he batted .363 with 37 RBIs, 31 runs scored, 10 doubles and seven home runs with 11 stolen bases. Magers led MSU to its fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance in his fourth season. The Mavericks also won their third consecutive NSIC regular season championship with a 27-5 mark in league play. Ranked No. 5 nationally, MSU enters the NCAA Central Region Tournament as the No. 1 seed with a 44-10 overall record.
