The monthly 'Mann Ki Baat' radio broadcast, hosted by Prime Minister Shri Modi, completed its 100th episode on April 30, 2023. This program addresses various topics, including the environment, cleanliness, and social issues, and has been airing since October 3, 2014. It is broadcasted on the last Sunday of every month at 11 am on the All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan (DD) network. The 100th episode was a historic occasion and was even heard live at the U.N. HeadquartersintheTrusteeshipCouncilChamber.

The uniqueness of this program lies in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's highlighting of individuals across the country who excel in their respective elds and provide employment opportunities to people. For example, the 'Healing Himalayas' campaign focuses on clean-up drives and waste management in rural areas of the Himalayas One person from Jammu and Kashmir operates a pencil manufacturing unit that employs hundredsofpeople.

When addressing a question about ensuring quality education by 2030, the Prime Minister mentioned the implementation of the New Education Policy, the availability of regional language education options, and the integration of technology into education as factorsthatwouldcontributetoqualityeducation.

I'm delighted to hear that a large number of scouts, guides, rovers, and rangers participated in mapping shows at heritage sites across the country to pledge their commitment to protecting these important cultural sites.

I am condent that the Bharat Scouts and Guides will continue to engage in partnership programs with the GovernmentofIndia.

Summer has arrived, bringing high temperatures worldwide. Life on Earth is threatened as some animal species are disappearing. Global warming urges us to protect our planet from pollution and deforestation. Our scouts and guides have planned activities such as litter clean-ups in public parks and the community, involving the public. We will seek assistance from the local forest department to gather saplings for planting during the upcoming rainy season to counter deforestation. I'm pleased to hear that our youth celebrated Earth Day on April 22nd with the theme "Invest in Our Planet." Remember, Earth Day is every day. I expect our scouts and guides to organize similar awareness activities throughouttheyear.

The Plastic Tide Turners Challenge is part of the United Nations Environment Programme, supporting youth efforts to combat plastic pollution. Our scouts, guides, Rovers, and Rangers have been participating in the program across all states, advocating for the reduction of single-use plastics and the prohibition of plastic carry bags. World Environment Day will be observed on June 5th with the theme "Beat Plastic Pollution." Adult leaders are encouraged to guide young individuals in developing awareness programs to discourage plastic usage.

The growth of our organization is a priority. I encourage stakeholders, from unit leaders to commissioners at various levels, to engage with educational institutions that have not yet been exposed to Scout and Guide activitiesandenrollthemasmembersoftheBSG.

This month is hot, with daytime temperatures shooting up. Adult leaders who are busy running summer camps have to take necessary precautions to protect our youth from sunstroke or sun exposure. State-level Rashtrapathi Testing camps are being conducted, and I expect all the aspirants to prepare well with all the necessary documents.

While we are focused on the youth program, we are equally busy urging states to expand scouting activities to areas where scouting does not currently exist. When considering growth, The Bharat Scouts and Guides have planned to implement the National Adult Resources Management Policy at the state and district levels. In this context, a national-level workshop on capacity building in adults in scouting and guiding was conducted a few days ago at the National Training CentreinPachmarhi.

Under this policy, states and districts have to assess the needs of adults to ensure a balanced number of units to adult leaders Adults, mostly volunteers, should be sufciently available for all units and should be trained at the required levels to maintain quality in the implementationoftheyouthprogram.

It was also decided in the workshop that similar workshops would be conducted at the state and district levels to discuss policy details, such as the procedure for recruitment of adults, their training system and support, and how to conduct performance appraisals foradults.

It is also crucial for states and districts to expand the organization to untouched areas and open new units when educational institutions reopen. It is encouraging to know that some states have made efforts to introduce scouting at the university level, and other states should follow suit to contribute to the overall growth of the organization.

CLIMATE CHANGE: EMPOWERING CUBS AND BULBULS, SCOUTS AND GUIDES, ROVERS AND RANGERS AS CHANGE MAKERS SCOUTS AND AND RANGERS

Climate change has emerged as one of the most pressing global challenges of our time. The detrimental effects of human activities on the environment are becoming increasingly evident, demanding urgent action. In this battle for a sustainable future, Scouts and Guides play a vital role as change makers. With their values of responsibility, resourcefulness, and service to others, they can make a signicant impact in combating climate change and fostering environmentalstewardship.

v Understanding Climate Change: Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperature patterns, weather events, and ecosystems due to humaninduced greenhouse gas emissions. Rising global temperatures, melting ice caps, extreme weather events, and biodiversity loss are just a few consequences of this crisis. The urgency to act is clear, and Scouts and Guides have the potential to beattheforefrontofpositivechange.

v Education and Awareness: As ambassadors of change, Scouts and Guides have the opportunity to educate themselves and raise awareness about climate change. By learning about its causes,

impacts, and possible solutions, they can inspire others to adopt sustainable practices. Organizing workshops, presentations, and awareness campaigns within their communities can help spread knowledgeandencouragemeaningfulaction.

v Promoting Sustainable Practices: Scouts and Guides can lead by example by adopting sustainable practices in their daily lives. They can reduce energy consumption by promoting energyefcient practices, such as using renewable energy sources, turning off lights when not in use, and minimizing water wastage. Emphasizing the importance of recycling, composting, and responsible consumption can also contribute to reducingtheircarbonfootprint.

v Conservation and Restoration: Environmental conservation and habitat restoration activities align perfectly with the principles of Scouting and Guiding. Engaging in tree planting initiatives, cleaning up local parks and beaches, and participating in wildlife preservation projects can foster a sense of responsibility towards nature. Encouraging outdoor adventures and nature exploration also instills a deep appreciation for the naturalworld.

v Advocacy and Partnerships: Scouts and Guides can becomeeffectiveadvocates for climate action by engaging with policymakers, local communities, and relevant organizations. They can participate in rallies, write letters to elected ofcials, and join environmental campaigns to push for policies that prioritize sustainability. Building partnerships with environmental groups and collaborating on projects can amplify their impact and promote collectiveaction.

v Empowering Future Leaders: Scouting and Guiding provide opportunities for personal growth and leadership development. By nurturing young minds with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to

address climate change, we can create a generation of environmentally conscious leaders. Encouraging them to take part in environmental projects, empowering their voices, and providing platforms for their initiatives will help shape a brighter and greenerfuture.

v Conclusion: Climate change demands immediate action, and Scouts and Guides are well-equipped to be change makers in this global challenge. By educating themselves, promoting sustainable practices, engaging in

conservation efforts, advocating for policy changes, and empoweringfutureleaders, they can make a signicant difference. Let us harness the power of Scouting and Guiding to create a sustainable and resilient world for generations to come. Together, we can combat climate change and protect our planet.

HOW TO MAKE OUR LISTENING SKILLS ACTIVE?

It is our experience that participants do not have the ability to sit for 45 minutes and listen attentively and actively to what others are saying. Active listeners listen with their ears, eyes andmind.Theyobserveandlistentothefeelingsandemotionsaswellasliteralwordssothat thetotalmeaningbehindthespeaker`smessagecanbegrasped.

It was found by observation that we can be active listeners, if we follow the belowmentionedtechniques:

1. Be motivated: For this, listener should be willing to make the effort to listen, although it is hard work. Listener should make effort to hear and understand what the speaker is saying.

2. Make eye-contact: Making eye-contact with the speaker focusses our attention and avoid from distraction or diversion. It also encourages the speaker to perform well. Peoplejudgewhetherwearelisteningbylookingatoureyes.

More than 100 years ago during the rst World Jamboree in 1920, Lord Baden-Powell wanted to bring together Scouts from around the world to build a feeling of brotherhood and to help his young Scouts to learn about other people. And now more than 55 milions of young people connected with world brotherhood around the world through Scouting/Guiding.

As Scouting grew in other countries, Lord Baden-Powell wanted to bring together Scouts fromaroundtheworldtobuildafeelingofbrotherhoodandtohelphisyoungScoutstolearn about other people. Young people are also the best placed to lead this transformation. To limit global warming, young people are demanding a halt to coal, oil and gas exploration, development, and nancing, as well as asking rms to replace any corporate board directorswhoareunwillingtotransitiontocleanerenergysources.

Youth 20 (Y20) is an ofcial consultation forum for youth from all G20 member countries to be able to dialogue with each other. Y20 encourages youth as future leaders to raise awareness of global issues, exchange ideas, argue, negotiate, and reach consensus. Due to the conuence of these technological advancements and their interplay across the physical, digital, and biological realms, the fourth industrial revolution is fundamentally distinct from the preceding revolutions.
