Berkhamsted Prep School is one of six schools that make up Berkhamsted Schools Group. Berkhamsted School is one of the country’s leading independent schools It has a structure that provides the best in both co-educational and single-sex education, offering small class sizes and appropriate teaching environments for each age group, from age 3 to 18.

The School’s ‘diamond’ structure allows boys and girls to be taught together until the age of 11 (at Berkhamsted Pre-Prep and at Berkhamsted Prep), separately from 11-16 (Berkhamsted Boys and Berkhamsted Girls), before coming back together again in a joint Sixth Form (Berkhamsted Sixth)

Berkhamsted Prep pupils are provided with the opportunity of progressing to the Girls and Boys Senior Schools by sitting the Berkhamsted entrance exam a week prior to the external applicants.

Reporting to: Housekeeping Manager

Responsible to: Team Leads, Assistant Housekeeping Manager and Housekeeping Manager

Job Purpose

To clean school facilities to the highest standard using the schools cleaning products and equipment. Report defects as and when found. Work alone or using flow cleaning principles Follow Health & Safety procedures

Toilet and Cloakroom Areas:

• Clean lavatory basins with appropriate cleaner provided.

• Clean inside and outside surrounds of sinks

• Clean taps

• Refill toilet dispensers in all cubicles

• Refill paper towels in each dispenser

• Wipe tiles and paintwork

• Polish mirrors

• Empty bins and replace bin liners where necessary

• Clean and mop floor with appropriate cleaner

General Areas:

• Vacuum (spot clean where necessary)

• Hard flooring – dust control sweep or vacuum, damp mop classrooms

• Furniture / desks – damp dust (all removable furniture e.g. trolleys must be pulled out and cleaned under)

• Fixtures & fittings – dust and damp wipe (incl. skirting, pipes, window ledges)

• Bins – empty daily and damp wipe monthly

• Clean inside and outside surrounds of sinks

• Doors – remove marks from glass, doors and walls

Corridors:

• Hard flooring – dust control sweep or vacuum, damp mop classrooms

• Furniture / desks – damp dust (all removable furniture e g trolleys must be pulled out and cleaned under)

• Fixtures & fittings – dust and damp wipe (incl skirting, pipes, window ledges)

• Doors – remove marks from glass, doors and walls

Stairs:

• Vacuum carpet (spot clean where necessary)

• Hard flooring – dust control sweep or vacuum, damp mop classrooms

• Furniture / desks – damp dust (all removable furniture e g trolleys must be pulled out and cleaned under)

Skills / Experience required

Experience of undertaking general cleaning duties.

Be able to maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene

Able to communicate clearly, understand and follow instructions

Ability to manage time effectively to complete tasks to a high level.

Ability to prioritise work

Able to work with minimum supervision

Ability to work both alone and within a team to achieve specified standards.

Be flexible to changing demands of the post
