Making music Christi-Ann Nancarrow shares some highlights of music at BSB There is so much to say about Music at BSB, it is impossible to recount everything! Some highlights I think worth mentioning include the senior choir and our flute ensemble ‘Flautissimo’ performing for the Edith Cavell memorial event in the Senate in 2014, which was attended by Belgian Royalty as well as Princess Anne. This was quite an honour and Princess Anne came and spoke to the students at the end of the performance. In school we have our annual Music Festival and Summer Concerts, bi-annual Christmas Concert in the Church and bi-annual school musical productions. These are just some of the amazing musicals performed at BSB: • Oh What a Lovely War - 2006 • Guys and Dolls - 2009 • My Fair Lady - 2011 • Jesus Christ Superstar - 2013 • Chicago - 2015 • Little Shop of Horrors - 2017 • Hairspray 2019 together 34 Learning inspiring success
Other highlights outside school include several visits to the Ambassador’s Residence, singing to Veterans at Remembrance Day events, and taking music concerts to Ganspoel (the home for the visually impaired) and the Carina Residence (a home for people with Alzheimers) with the CAS Music Group. Other successful events include jazz nights and rock shows over the last ten years, where students form their own ensembles and perform music of their choice. We have also celebrated success with an enormous number of ABRSM and Rock School performance examinations over the years (we are an examination centre for both of these prestigious examination boards). It’s hard to mention everything; music is just so important to BSB.
