January of 2023 Coastal Bend Homeschool Theatre Collective had its start. For the past 5 semesters it has grown more than I imagined! I’m so happy to have given our homeschool community the opportunity for a theatre class. I have watched young people come out of their shells, develop talents they didn’t realize they had, given them a place to create friendships, and experience camaraderie. Bryan Meza and myself grew this class from love for the art, and for the children. When it was time for him to move on, I asked my friend Peter Lopez to step in and take the reins.
What a brilliant man! I had watched him direct main stage productions, been on production teams with him, my whole family took vocals lesson with him. I knew he was perfect for the job. And the students…loved him!! He was create, fun, and gentle in his approach to directing. A special thanks to Drake Jackson for stepping in as director to help finish the show. I am looking forward to working together for CBHTC’s next endeavor. It is with a heavy heart that we are presenting our show without Peter, but I have no doubt these young people will make him proud! We’re so proud to be performing some of the last works Peter ever had his hand in. He will be greatly missed, and is loved beyond compare. This one is dedicated to you, Mr. Lopez.

Stepping into this production has been a whirlwind of emotions. I’m so grateful to Holly for bringing me in and trusting me with something so meaningful. This show was very close to Peter’s heart, and after his unexpected passing, it’s taken on even greater significance for all of us. It’s been an honor—and a responsibility—to help carry his vision forward and bring this story to life in a way that would make him proud.
Beetlejuice may be filled with ghosts, chaos, and sandworms, but at its core, it’s about learning to live. It’s about love, found family, and embracing the weird, messy beauty of life. These incredible kids have poured their hearts into this show, and their talent, humor, and dedication have made the process something truly special.
Thank you for being here. I hope you laugh, cheer, maybe tear up a little—and most of all, that you leave reminded that life is worth living, fully and loudly
