Around the world, recycled buildings are used as nightclubs that
consolidate an identity and are a symbol of resistance to the
dominant culture. The study of techno culture allows us to
understand how these spaces are constituted and the role they
play in cities. An architectural counterculture prototype is
identified through volumetric, atmospheric, material and situational
characteristics: The Techno Bunker, then, the proposed theoretical
model ties architectural qualities with notions evoked and based on
human needs to explain how techno bunkers make use of
Abandonment Aesthetics to selectively integrate different
sociocultural contexts. Finally, the utopian vision of an urban
transformation that is unleashed after the insertion of a Techno
Bunker in the financial district of the city of Quito, Ecuador, is
expressed through illustrations.
