Meet the team

by Miss Frost Back in the Summer Holidays, I approached Mrs Snow and asked if I could start a an after-school club based around creating a printed termly newsletter. Mrs Snow was delighted with the idea and together we came up with the extremely original name of 'Sunny Hill Journalists'!

Since the start of term, I have been privileged enough to build a team of nine budding journalists and together we have worked to put together this round-up of Prep and Nursery news from September to December.

Amber P, Bea H and Jamie S are the groups youngest members and I'm so proud of how they have worked together as a team and separately, bringing lots of ideas to the group. Pip K, Emilie H, Martha K-H, Poppy W, Kya S and Isabella G have all written some brilliant reports over the past few weeks, and again, shared great ideas with the team. Well done to all of you!

Emilie: There were six old-fashioned tractors and some people got a go at pretending to drive them, next we met our tour guide, Russell.

Kya: Russell showed us how they make apple juice and cider. It was really satisfying when the machine crushed the apples because all of the juice squeezed out of the apples into a bucket / container.

Poppy: We were told all about apples and their life cycle.

It was really interesting and I learnt a lot of things I didn’t know such as the names of different apples from different counties such as a Pink Lady. Next we looked at all the water features.

Bea: My favourite part about The Newt was the spitting frogs when they spit with water when you walk by. The flowers were all lovely colours. Russell gave us some peas and some edible flowers. The peas and the flowers smelt and tasted nice. We went to the gardener’s cottage and found some coins that showed us when some of the parts of the cottage and the garden were made.

An interview with Mrs snow Questions written and asked Isabella G: Can you name five shoes you own in seven seconds?

Mrs Snow: Stilettos, pumps, ankle boots, wellies, flip flops....

Poppy: Would you rather be on Strictly Come Dancing or The Great British Bake Off? Mrs Snow: The Great British Bake Off for sure!

Emilie: What is your favourite meal at school?

Mrs Snow: Lasagne and salad Pip: Do you ever sing in the shower or work?

Mrs Snow: I keep it to the shower!

Kya: Has your phone ever rung in lessons?

Mrs Snow: Good question! Yes, the odd school emergency.

Amber P and Jamie and in unison: What’s the funniest thing that’s ever happened to you?

Mrs Snow: Well, on my very first skiing holiday, I reached the top of a very high mountain on a T-Bar lift, but must have somehow fidgeted and both my skis fell off! I was stranded at the top of the mountain with no skis to get down! It was very scary but funny.

Amber P: How did you get down?

Mrs Snow: (laughing) I was luckily rescued by my husband!

Isabella G: What have been your favourite moments at school?

Mrs Snow: I absolutely love going on the residential trips to Charter House or Kilve Court, it’s always so much fun and I love those experiences.

Mrs Snow: What a great question. I think that as I child I was amazed by Florence Nightingale. Her achievements were many, she

was ahead of her

time and was the founder of modern nursing.

What a wonderful lady!

Emilie: What’s your favourite memory at school?

Mrs Snow: Always the school trips, the little one’s Nativity, that’s always one of my highlights of the year. Also the Prep Production’s at the end of the year – they’re always really memorable.

Bea: What is your most embarrassing moment?

Mrs Snow: It’s got to be the skiing incident, there were so many people watching me!

Kya: Do you have a celebrity crush, if so, who?Mrs Snow: It’s got to be George Ezra, I love his singing, I think he’s fantastic.

Amber and Jamie in unison: Do you watch Netflix?

Mrs Snow: I don’t watch Netflix, I haven’t got time!

Bea and Pip in unison: Do you like Keen's cheddar?

Mrs Snow: I couldn’t say no!

SUNNY HILL NURSERY The launch of Sunny Hill Nursery – our all year round provision for girls and boys aged 2-4 years has got off to a flying start! At the beginning of September, we had 15 children attending the Nursery, and just eight weeks on there are now 18 children, with another four due to start in January and more registered who are waiting for places later on in 2020. We are even getting bookings for September 2020! We have welcomed lots of families to come and look around, and Laura Field and her wonderful team of Nursery staff are ensuring the children and their parents are happy and secure. It’s clearly paying off as waiting lists have been opened for days where we are now full. Wishing all our Nursery and Pre-School children and families a wonderful and magical Christmas!

Sporting Snippets Wednesday 20th November U11A v Port Regis 2 - 3 Away The girls were very excited about going away to play against Port Regis. Lead through a warm-up by Poppy and Martha, the girls soon forgot about the cold and got their hockey heads on ready to play. They communicated well, pushing the ball forwards. Despite Port Regis getting the first goal, our girls came straight back and scored, putting smiles on their faces! At half time, it was 1-1, putting the girls in a good mindset to get back on and win. The second half resulted in more goals being scored, the girls moving more to get the ball, and the girls in defence getting the ball up the pitch. Player of the match goes to Martha for displaying fantastic hockey skills throughout the game.

Well done to everyone!

Wednesday 4th December U11 v All Hallows 2-0 Home What a fantastic end to the U11 hockey season. The girls played two matches against All Hallows. They played well, made the ball do the work and tried to remember to stay out wide. The first game was very even and ended in a 0-0 draw, with both sides playing very well in defence the second game, against a fresh team, our girls didn’t tire and managed to move the ball wide and up front more. They were more goal hungry in this game and when they shot they followed it up, and this paid off with two goals from Hanami and Poppy. Well played all. Poppy was awarded Woman of the Match for her great midfield play in the first game, and Emilie had a cracking game on the wing which she was awarded Women of the Match for in the second game.
