Being Brunswick gives a behind the scenes look at our local business community and the jobs they do everyday. Messy, difficult, entertaining or creative, Being Brunswick covers it all. Each month features different businesses with host Shannon Viera documenting it all the way.

Featured March Business: Brunswick County Chamber of Commerce 2018 is going to be a GREAT Year!

Milligan Power & Lawn Equipment, LLC When did you open? There's no short answer to "when did we open?" because it was a totally different store then... Paul Sr. & Lynn opened our store opened in 1983, as Milligan's Sharpening Shop. They mainly sharpened blades, knives, handtools, & scissors (people still come in, 35 years later, and ask for shears sharpened). People started asking them to do minor repairs on the mowers and chainsaws "while they had them for sharpening", so they did a correspondence course in small engine repair and added more services. Eventually, they became a mower dealership, offering sales/service/warranty/parts. We added the line of ATVs and UTVs to meet the needs of hunters & farmers in 2005, then in response to constant requests we added Toro Dingo utility loaders and equipment rental soon after. We started stocking a full line of lightweight battery-powered equipment in the last few years. We hope to continue growing to meet the constantly changing needs of Brunswick County in the future.

What should people know about your business? That we are literally family owned and operated - Paul Jr is the Store Manager, his brother Josh is the Parts Manager, I cover the sales floor and Josh's wife Rachael works in accounting. We are committed to staying closed weekends; Saturday is for family, Sunday for worship. We do offer after-hours pickup/delivery/drop-off, and weekend appointments for rental and credit processing. All 3 of our major product lines (Toro, Stihl, Arctic Cat/Textron Off Road) have major American manufacturing plants, and we strongly believe in buying local.

Ambassadors are the liaisons between the Chamber and Brunswick County. Ambassadors welcome new businesses in the area, provide information on becoming a chamber member and check in with current members on an ongoing basis. These volunteers are an extension of the Chamber staff, supporting new and renewing members through active participation in the community. They are respected business professionals who champion the Chamber each and every day. Each month, we recognize an Ambassador who has shown unwavering support for our business community and the Chamber.
