State Program Provides Hope and Support to People Coping with COVID

THE DISEASE IS BAD, but the effects of worrying about coronavirus and its impact on your mental and physical well-being, family life and business are also devastating. Sometimes, you just need someone to talk to. NY Project Hope is a program of the New York State Office of Mental Health, developed to help people cope with the stresses and uncertainties of COVID by providing access to free, online wellness groups. These are safe spaces where participants can give voice to their emotional and physical challenges, and find resources to help them cope, including trained crisis counselors. Project Hope (NYprojecthope.org) offers an assortment of wellness groups, which meet online on various days of the week. Its latest offering, “Grieving and Healing,” meets Mondays at 5:30 p.m. to assist people experiencing grief and loss associated with the coronavirus. As with all of the project’s wellness groups, this one is open to everyone; no registration is needed; and it is free, confidential and anonymous. Entry is provided through an online link or by calling in. Information about all of the wellness groups can be found at https://nyprojecthope.org/wellnessgroups/ Support and information are also available by calling 1 (844) 863-9314 between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. The phone line is open seven days a week.
