St. Georges day is celebrated by Scouts across the UK and members of the Broughton Astley group joined with many others from across South Leicestershire for both on-line and face-to-face activities, for many, the first for 14 months! The opening and closing ceremonies were live from the campsite when promises were renewed. The scouting at home / zoom activities included the making promise hands, bike safety checks, meeting with a MP Alberto Costa to discuss their concerns about litter, creating a clay dragon, small catapult, water filter, dragon eggs, paracord people, pin art, getting out for a walk or a ride, promise scrolls and more. Before sleeping in their dens on Saturday, everyone enjoyed a loud live-streamed evening campfire too. At our Ullesthorpe campsite 6-18 year olds tried tomahawk throwing and cooking over fires with the help of Young Leaders and Explorers. Scouts had an introduction to whittling for safe knife

use. All young people were asked how they wanted to earn their badges and awards in the future and not surprisingly most want to spend more time with their friends outside and camping when it is permitted; a view shared by many volunteer leaders. Much of the event was organised by members of the Network unit (18-25 year olds). Who had the satisfaction of creating huge smiles and memories for life!
