Every organization welcomes new members! If you are not already active, call some that interest you Updated 2-14-23
Please mark your calendars for March 19, 2023 for the Beautification Committee's Games & Card Party. This event is our biggest fund-raiser that helps us pay for replacing plants, mulch, fertilizer, holiday decorations, etc. For those of you who aren't aware, we have a luncheon with sub sandwiches, chips, drinks, and Strawberry Shortcake!
There will be a Chinese Auction, raffles, door prizes, and lots of card and game playing. Tickets are $15. See Carole Tobey or Barb Hardy for tickets.
Since the weather is warming up, you will likely see committee members, wearing bright green vests, out on the medians more often. When you see us, please use extra caution while driving on the Boulevard and Brookridge Central. Slow down, and move over when possible. Thank you!
We always welcome new volunteers, especially those who have a love for gardening, knowledge of Florida plants and landscaping, or those who would just like something more to do. If you have any questions or suggestions, please call Jim Snyder, Chairman, at 352-596-1804.
Monthly meetings are the 2nd Thursday of each month at 10:00 a.m., at the Clubhouse.
Call Republic/County Waste Services at (352) 754-4112 to find out if you qualify for “DOOR SERVICE”
In order to qualify, you need to have a handicap auto tag or placard for your car if you drive; or a doctor's note stating that you require door service for your trash pickup.
When you call, have your information available, such as handicap placard number and expiration date.
This service is only for residents that are physically unable to handle *** the large trash containers and is a valuable service to our residents.

Help SAVE a life!!!
February 2023
I hope you all survived the cold weather we had and hopefully we are on our way to some nicer weather. It has been a busy time for Brookridge. Greg Schubert and John Lukeivic retired from Code Enforcement. Our thanks and best wishes go out to them as they move into another faze of their lives.
The gates are now completely operable. Please remember that there will be maintenance on this as on the other gates. DSX is now installed. Gate/Sentry is going well and will be adding more upgrades as needed. I'm sure you are all aware of the lengthy delay is getting our new software up and running. Quick/base hopefully it will be operational soon. Please remember, Rome wasn't built in a day.
We have put new speed signs at the gates so everyone entering can see them and know what our speeds are. I believe everyone can read so it should help reduce the speeding. Thanks to Billy for his hard work.
I cannot praise the staff enough:
•The Administration Staff: It goes without saying they are great people and work hard for Brookridge.
•The Club House: Thank you all. (Thanks for the coffee). Without them we would not have a clubhouse.
•Code Enforcement: They work hard to keep our community safe. They adjusted to the new Gate/Sentry without a word.
•Public Works: What would we do without them? Our community looks beautiful and three men take care of this huge property. They do a lot of repairs in-house thus saving Brookridge a lot of money.
As you are aware, this is probably my last letter to the News & Views as your President. It has not been easy to do the job I was elected for, mainly to do the best I could for Brookridge. The board I had so much hope for was disappointing. There were 5 member who had sat on boards before and, I thought, knew their obligations, but I surely was disappointed. They each had their own agendas, and it was not for Brookridge. I have been called derogatory names and criticized at private meetings. Texts were sent to me calling me names. (These were from some of the board members). I thought the residents were critical at times, but they did not compare to this board. I am ashamed that I presided over such discontent. Throughout the year there was one member I could depend on and this was his first year on a board. What happened to acting and thinking like adults? We live in a beautiful community and residents tear it down by their words and actions. I wish the new incoming board members success in their endeavors to continue making Brookridge a great place to live. All in all, it has been my pleasure to serve the residents as President of Brookridge. Thank you to those who supported me during my tenure as president.
Peace, love and charity.

Happy Spring to one and all. The “We love our veterans'” Tea went well. Thank you to all who attended. Many thanks to Teresa Glassmyer and her committees, Gil Lanctot and the Veteran's Committee, K-9 Partners for Patriots, our notable speakers, Terry Rose for his entertainment, CHS NJROTC for serving.
Thank you to the representatives from Physicians Stat Lab for providing lunch and useful info at our February meeting.
Elections are coming up, if you wish to serve on our Board of Directors or on any committee, please submit your resume to the Election Committee.
April 18th will be the last date for Tuesday Night Bingo for the summer and will resume in August-date TBA. These hard working ladies have earned a well-deserved break.
Our next meeting is March 20th at 1:00 pm. We will elect new officers and play Bingo.
Well, I am hoping by this time we have all had a great time at the Horse Races and Community Breakfasts.
Be sure to tell your friends because we are doing them again this month. Unfortunately, we are having to raise the breakfasts cost to $8.00 due to rising food cost. I hope you will agree it is still a great price for a full meal and don't forget the fellowship with other community members.
We are beginning to have other activities throughout the month, so come check us out on the last Wednesday of each month in the Clubhouse at 3:00 pm. Or call 352-442-6837, ask for Loren.

Let us pause once more to remember those who have left us this past year.
A setback is the distance a structure must be from the edge of a lot. Brookridge governing documents stipulate nothing shall be constructed within a front setback (address side) of 20 feet and side setbacks of 10 feet. Corner lots shall have a side setback of 12 feet on the street facing side.
Lots which are 100 feet or less deep shall have a rear setback of 12 feet; those lots greater than 100 feet deep shall have a rear setback of 18 feet except for lots between Scepter Ave and Grove Rd. which are 125 feet or more deep. Those lots have a rear setback requirement of 35 feet.
Driveways and parking pads are not considered to be construction and are therefore not required to meet setback criteria. There are, however, utility easements for water, electric, telephone, cable, etc. and if access to the easement is necessary it is the responsibility of the homeowner for all replacement or restoration costs. This may impact decisions regarding expansion of driveways or parking pads.
Code Enforcement officers are available during normal office hours for help in completing ACC applications. or you may contact me at harrycalderbank@tampabay.rr.com for information regarding your applications. Please indicate ACC Questions in the subject line.
Security and Code Enforcement field questions on a wide variety of problems and concerns on a daily basis. One question we get most often is issues with trash or recycling pick-up, specifically late or missed pick-ups.
Every property owner pays a small fee to Hernando County for garbage service. Hernando County has contracted with Republic Services for trash and recycling throughout the county.
Republic Services strives to do their best on a daily basis but unfortunately problems do arise. Brookridge does not get notified of contingency plans put in place by Republic Services. If you have questions regarding late or missed garbage pick-up, please call Republic Services directly at 1-727-868-2566.
Security/Code Enforcement is available 24 hours a day to assist the residents of Brookridge and knowing who to call is half the battle.
The March meeting is Wednesday the first at 10 a.m. in clubhouse room D Our meeting will review and revise this year's plans for recruitment.
Brookridge CERT needs YOU!
We want you to join our Brookridge CERT team of volunteers.
Training, materials, and supplies are free to volunteers. Training includes lessons in preparation, survival, and rescue techniques in crisis situations. We learn to take care of ourselves first, family next, and then our neighbours and community.
Each year we have enjoyed relatively safe weather. We need to make sure we are prepared in case of the worst. CERT prepares us for other situations as well. Remember that disasters come from many different sources.
Get prepared, join CERT now
Contact information: E-mail Bill at WWHarLin@aol.com, or leave a message at (352) 293-4647.
Thanks for all your community support!
REMEMBER:
Always if you have an emergency call 911.
The Veteran's Committee meeting will be on Monday, March 20, 2023 at 10:00 am in the South Hall of the Clubhouse.
We will have a guest speaker for the GUARDIAN PROGRAM, to explain the Veterans Benefits. This will be very interesting and informative. All are invited to attend.
For more information, contact Gil Lanctot, Chairman at 352-835-2177 or Gillanctot@yahoo.com
After Christmas break, the teacher asked her small pupils how they spent their holidays. One small boy's reply went like this:
We always spend Christmas with Grandma and Grandpa. They used to live up here in a big brick house, but Grandpa got retarded and they moved to Florida.
They live in a place with a lot of retarded people. They live in tin huts. They ride big three-wheeled tricycles. They go to a big building the call a wrecked hall, it is fixed now. They play games there and do exercise, but they don't do them very good. There is a swimming pool and they go to itand just stand in the water with their hats on. I guess they don't know how to swim. My Grandma used to bake cookies and stuff, but I guess she forgot how. Nobody cooks-they all go to fast food restaurants.
As you come into the community, there is a doll house with a man sitting in it. He watches all day, so they can't get out without him seeing them. They wear badges with their names on them, I guess they don't know who they are.
My Grandmas says Grandpa worked hard all his life and earned his retardment. I wish they would move back home, but I guess the man in the dollhouse won't let them out.
