President's Report/ Members Comments: Higgins-Coble – The President reported that there were new challenges to be addressed. There were rumors that two employees would be fired when the new board was elected. Also, the Advisory Committee was told to only report to President Webster. Past-President Webster and two (2) other board members along with the Advisory Committee met secretly to discuss a management company and personnel issues. She doesn’t hold the Advisory Committee responsible for these secret meetings but stated that Anna Webster and Ken Duncan have shown a lack of respect for the residents and other board members. The community along with the administration deserves an open, honest, and transparent board. By holding private meetings and making decisions regarding a management company take over the day-to-day operation without discussing it with the residents, shows a complete lack of respect toward the residents of Brookridge, and has lost confidence in their ability to serve on the Board. She felt she had no other choice than to ask Ms. Webster and Mr. Duncan for their resignations. When she had asked for their resignations, they initially agreed but then rescinded their decision to resign the next day. President Higgins-Coble went on to say that Mr. Duncan was called and asked to sign checks but had not yet come into the Administration office to do so. Anna Webster responded that some of the things that the President stated were not true. Only 3 board members met with the Advisory Committee at the library, which does not signify a quorum. She also mentioned a legal meeting where the attorney was only present by email. Jim Westbrook stated that the community needs transparency and shouldn’t be dysfunctional. Lynne Southwick – Unit 4 – Ken and Anna showed blatant disrespect for the residents. How can they be removed from the board. Lynne Southwick also asked why the clubhouse is open to non-residents? Gail Metcalf – Unit 6 – we should look into nonresidents being allowed in the clubhouse.
Ken Duncan – responded citing Florida Statute 6170825 and 720.303.2A. He also said that he only received a phone call on his house phone and not his cell phone, he was busy that day. When he finally retrieved the message, it was 3:30 pm and felt that it was too late to call back or come into the office at that point. Nancy Whetstone – Unit 4 – she has been a mayor and served on Boards in the past. The board members can’t talk about community items outside of the community. Beverly Epstein – Unit 6 – can we start fresh and work together? Jim Westbrook – let’s move forward, we are adults. Mary Astore – Unit 6 – did we hire a new audit company yet? Have we looked into getting a refund from the auditor that did the past audits incorrectly? Ms. Astore also asked Treasurer Westbrook if he looked at the Treasurer’s reports from January and February? The numbers are different. Sandy Lewis – Unit 2 – regarding water aerobics – they want to change the time of the class. Mike Green will speak to Sandy Lewis after the meeting. Kathy Hershey – Unit 2 – she has been doing aqua exercise at the pool for 21 years from April to October. Please consider Sandy’s request. Gil Lanctot – Unit 4 – he is the RV Committee chairman. He wants everyone to know that the RV committee is self-supporting, there is no line item in the budget for the RV Committee. Don Malin – Unit 4 - he has a complaint about the ACC – the new house on Rialto is not in compliance. President Higgins-Coble gave an explanation about this matter.
General Managers Report: C. Webster – Vote recount went well. The numbers came out the same Present were Mary Sweeney, Vivian Blair and Millie Bernier
Unfinished Business: Brookridge 50th birthday. Motion by Higgins- Coble, seconded by Westbrook for the Board to form a committee to plan Brookridge’s 50th Birthday Celebration. Member Comments: Vivian Blair – Unit 4 – congratulations to the new board. Please do not cut the meeting short, it isn’t fair to those that wish to speak. A lot of people don’t even know there is a Crime Watch. They meet the first Wednesday of the month at 9 am. Everyone, have a fun filled and safe summer!
See you at our first fall meeting on Monday, September 18, 2023 at 1:00 pm in the Clubhouse.
We are in the spring and summer months and although we don't have any community activities scheduled, we are still very busy getting organized for the fall.

We are looking forward to the fall when we will be, in cooperation with other groups to bring back the Car Show.
We will also be starting the community breakfasts and horse races again in October.

From all of us on the Beautification Committee, “Thank you to Lowe's in Brooksville for donating 5-gallon buckets, gloves, and bags to us, and to my neighbor Ed (who works at Lowe's) for donating a new battery and charger for our hedge trimmer”. There are several Brookridge residents who work at that Lowe's location. We would also like to thank all of the businesses and Brookridge clubs who donated to the silent auction at our fundraiser. (See list below.) Thank you to the Ladies of Brookridge Club for their very generous donation and congratulations to those who won those donations.
As always, please watch out for us when you see us working in the medians. Slow down, and move over when possible.
We always welcome new volunteers, especially those who have a love for gardening, knowledge of Florida plants and landscaping, or those who would just like something more to do. Last month we discussed Florida Friendly landscaping options. While stone and shells may be used in Brookridge, Hernando County does not recommend their use as a lawn substitute Rock yards do not add nutrients to the soil and may result in excess heat. They suggest two to four inches of mulch around trees and plants, but caution against piling too much mulch in those areas.
If commercially available much is used, they recommend the use of sustainable material. They suggest cypress mulch be avoided as it is not produced using sustainable practices and is harmful to our wetlands. They further frown upon the use of rubber mulch as it does not add nutrients to the soil and it attracts excess heat.
Code Enforcement personnel are available at the Administration Office during normal business hours to answer questions and assist with ACC Applications.

Mosquitoes can be a nuisance to humans and animals & can carry and transmit diseases. To protect yourself against mosquito bites, if possible stay indoors between the hours of dusk and dawn. If you must go outside, wear a long-sleeved shirt, pants, socks and shoes and apply mosquito repellant to exposed skin. Mosquito repellants containing “DEET” are the most effective. It is important to read application instructions before using, especially on children. Hernando Co. Mosquito Control comes into the community periodically to spray for mosquitoes. We are also listing below tips for finding and stopping mosquitoes around your property:
1.Roof gutters clogged with leaves and debris are breeding sites for mosquitoes. Make sure water flows freely down the spouts.
2.Potted plants should be checked for puddled water in leaves or in saucers under pots. Also check wheel barrels, barbeque grills, bird baths, and anything that can hold water.
3.Leaky faucets should be turned off or repaired to keep from puddling.
4.Dispose or cover old tires, since these are a favorite breeding site for mosquitoes.
5.Mow grass and weeds to eliminate hiding places for mosquitoes.
th Join Brookridge in our celebration of July 4 with a Freedom Ride. Decorate anything, except automobiles, for a fun ride through the community. Let your imagination run wild; please, leave your political banners and flags at home.
We will stage in the Clubhouse South Parking Lot at 4:00pm.
Debby Burns ~ Social Events CommitteeMany thanks to everyone who volunteered and participated in the Poker Run. You made it a great success!!!
The weather was pretty, everyone had a good time and a few lucky ones went home winners.
I think the dealers had as much fun as the runners. Keep an eye out for the next event this fall.
Brookridge Community Residents: The Unit Representatives group, your “Community Ambassadors”, need to recruit some new volunteers.
We have several openings. We try to reach all new residents and make them welcome. We are a fun group, with minimal time commitment each month. We would love to have you join us.

Brookridge is a deed restricted community and as such we have many governing documents. One of these documents is the Architectural Control Guidelines. These Guidelines let homeowners know what can and cannot be done to the exterior of a home.
The homeowner must fill out an ACC application prior to the start of any work.
The ACC applications are available at the main office Monday through Friday 8:30am till 4:00pm.
The ACC Committee meets on the second and fourth Mondays of every month at 9:00am in the Administration Office
Many projects may also require a Hernando County Building permit. An ACC approval by Brookridge does not override the county permit, both may be required and it is the homeowner's responsibility to obtain the county permit.
Please contact Code Enforcement at 352-596-0696 prior to the start of ANY project on the exterior of the home or surrounding property

"Kings & Queens" play on Mondays at 2:00 pm, please be at the club by 1:30 pm.
Kings & Queens are a group of couples that play 9 holes of golf Monday afternoons - alternate shot format for the twosome. If you don't have a male/female partner, you may play as two ladies or two gents. If you haven't played yet, it might be a great way to meet your fellow golfers. This is a fun group. I'm sure you will enjoy it, but don't be too serious, as it is meant to be fun while enjoying our golf course.
Newcomers are always welcome
The cost to play is $1.00 per couple. All money is returned to the winners. It is not necessary to sign up any day, just come to the club ready to play golf
Looking forward to seeing you Monday afternoons!
by Erv AlberOur league plays "Fun Golf" year-round. Golfers of all levels are invited. New members are always welcome
Our priority is having fun - most of our members are playing from the red or silver tees this year. Come out & enjoy the course with us.
Due to Covid-19 we will not exchange money or score cards this year. We'll continue playing "Fun Golf".
There will be no dues to join & play. No weekly payouts or points.
We tee off at 8:00 AM every Monday.
Please meet in the parking lot at 7:30 am and form into groups around 7:45 am.
MENS9HOLEGOLFLEAGUEWe enjoyed our Farewell to Snowbirds party as we dined and played shuffleboard and corn hole at the Clubhouse on April 12th. The winter sure flew by!

On September 15th we will return to our regular “winter” hours which are Monday through Saturday 8:00 am to 10:00 am.
As always, any resident can use the courts at any other time by registering and borrowing a key from the monitors in the clubhouse.
We wish you all a safe and healthy summer
Mon, Wed, & Fri.
8:00 am - 10:00am Sun. 6:00 pm
There will be no Brookridge CERT meetings in June, July, or August.
We want you to join our Brookridge CERT team of volunteers. Training, materials, and supplies are free to volunteers through the Hernando County Emergency Operations Center and FEMA.
Training includes lessons in preparation, survival, and rescue techniques in crisis situations. We learn to take care of ourselves first, family next, and then our neighbours and community.
Each year we have enjoyed relatively safe weather. We need to make sure we are prepared in case of the worst.
CERT prepares us for other situations as well. Remember that disasters come from many different sources. Get prepared, join CERT now
Help us to keep our neighbourhood safe
Contact information: E-mail Bill at WWHarLin@aol.com or leave a message at (352) 293-4647.
Thanks for all your community support!
REMEMBER:
Always if you have an emergency call 911.
We're still enjoying Evening Shuffleboard. You should come out and join us!
This time of year, we play with a smaller group. It's a bit more casual. Still, lots of fun and good exercise
We play every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday evening. We usually begin @ 6:30. The time may change as the days get longer.
For more info, call Debby Burns at 980-6130-0395.
Please join us on Friday mornings at 10:00am in Room D of the Clubhouse for a non-denominational study in God's Word. We have a pastor from a local church who leads the Bible Study
If you are unable to meet with us in person, you can join us via Zoom. Our contact person is Judy Schmalz at 727-389-2731. We are a friendly group and hope you can come.
Psalm 118: 22-24
The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes; The Lord has done it this very day; let us rejoice today and be glad.
This Bible Study is open to all people seeking what God has planned for you! Join us at the Clubhouse room C Wednesday Evenings 6:00 to 7:00 pm. Learn how much God loves you. Take the challenge to find who the Creator is and learn about your future. Is time on your side? A friend once demonstrated by using a tape measure. Try this: pull out your tape measure to a length that you believe to be the “standard age” of life expectancy (1inch for each year). Next look at the measure for your years already lived. How does that compare? More or less than you expect before your time is up. [Thanks, Wayne, for this aid.]
Words to know: Psalm 90:10-12 (KJV)
“The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath. So, teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”.
Every Thursday evening at 6:00 pm, we meet in Room D for a time of prayer. Everyone is welcome to join us in praying for our Country, our State, our County, and our Community.
Prayer changes things!
Phil. 4:6: "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to GOD."
In today's world, we need to pray more than ever.
For more information, contact Pastor Ben or Phoebe at 352-701-0044.
The Bible tells us that we should not neglect gathering together with the saints. Ps 92:3-4 says: "Those who are planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our GOD. They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing."
It is good to give GOD time out of our busy schedule. Join Pastors Ben & Phoebe each Sunday morning at 10:00 am in Room D at the clubhouse. This is a time of praise, worship and an anointed message from the WORD of GOD.
For more information, contact Pastors Ben or Phoebe at 352-701-0044.

Leave early, Use an emergency shelter as a last resort.
Make plans now and decide where you will go if an emergency situation arises which requires evacuation. Have at least a half tank of gas in your car at all times. Have adequate CASH on hand when you evacuate, ATM and automatic credit card payment at gas pumps may not work. Keep a small bag with your necessities and any medications you need packed and ready to go if needed.
Never drive west from Brookridge in the event of an evacuation order. Do NOT go to Route 19 to evacuate nor the Suncoast Parkway North because it merges back onto Route 19. Also, both of these roads may be impassable in the early stages of a hurricane.
Do Go East on Route 50 to I-75 or farther East before going North or South. Make arrangements for a place to stay before you leave Brookridge.

Only a dad with a tired face, Coming home from the daily race, Bringing little of gold or fame
To show how well he has played the game; But glad in his heart that his own rejoice To see him come and to hear his voice
Only a dad with a brood of four, One of ten million men or more Plodding along in the daily strife, Bearing the whips and the scorns of life, With never a whimper of pain or hate, For the sake of those who at home await.
Only a dad, neither rich nor proud, Merely one of the surging crowd
Toiling, striving from day to day, Facing whatever may come his way, Silent whenever the harsh condemn, And bearing it all for the love of them.
Only a dad but he gives his all
To smooth the way for his children small, Doing with courage stern and grim, The deeds that his father did for him. This is the line that for him I pen: Only a dad, but the best of men.

I want to wish all of the dads a wonderful Father's Day
Exercise is important for older adults. Being physically active makes it easier to perform activities of daily living. Physically active older adults are also less likely to fall, which can lead to serious injuries. Exercise improves muscle strength and bone density as well, which is especially important for women since they lose bone density at a faster rate after menopause than men. Meanwhile, the benefits of exercise for the heart and lungs help promote overall health and offset some risks for chronic illnesses and disease. Older adults should do at least 2.5 to 5 hours of aerobic activity a week, ideally spread out over several days. Moderate-intensity aerobic activity includes brisk walking, cycling, swimming, dancing and nature walks.
Our class is for Brookridge residents and their houseguests (Sorry, no children). The cost is fifty cents per class and the first class is free! Class starts at 8:30am and runs to 9:30am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Classes start with low impact aerobics followed by stretch and tone; weights; and either mats or chairs. Weights and mats are available if you don't have your own. Come have fun with us!
If you have any questions, please call Linda Hartman at 352-293-4647
Water-based exercise is a very popular activity that is not limited to any age group
Research has shown that water exercises can be a safe and effective workout for those with arthritic conditions.
One of the ladies once said to me, “IN THE WATER, NO PAIN!”.
byAlice YostPicnic time is upon us and we will have to plan ahead. We encourage you to eat three healthy meals a day and that's where the planning come in. You can have the grilled meat (proper amount), a lite bun, veggies and sugar free drinks—water is the best!
Planning ahead is also important. When you grocery shop - NEVER go shopping when you are hungry. When planning ahead, you can add a variety of healthy, legal foods.
We meet every Monday at 9:00 am in Room D of the Clubhouse. Men & women are Welcome!
Have a Happy & Healthy Summer!!!
