

ADMISSION POLICY

POLICY REVIEW STATEMENT
To ensure the policy document is ingrained in the normal schools’ operations and is relevant,itwillbereviewedonannualbasisbyateamofstaffcomprisingoftheprincipal, IB coordinator and all heads of departments. There will be a tracker on the school managementsystemforstafftopostareasthatrequirerevisionandareasthatmaynot be included in this current document but are a necessary inclusion. Additionally, the tracker will allow staff to post areas that require inclusion based on changes in the externalregulatoryandeducationenvironment.
Atthebottomofthecoverpagethedateofreviewandeditionnumberofthepolicywill be indicated. For example (Reviewed on 18th December 2024) Version 2. The management will ensure the revised policy is circulated to all the relevant staff for effectiveimplementation.Thisprocesswillensureallpolicydocumentsremainsactivein guidingtheoperationsoftheschools.
1.0POLICY RATIONALE AND PURPOSE
Theadmissionpolicyaimstooutlinetheproceduresforstudentswhoaimtoapplyfor acceptance to pursue IB Diploma program in Brookhurst International schools. This policyalsoaimstoassisttheeducationadministratorsinvolvedinadmissiontoensure theprocessisseamlessandthestudentsarewellinformedoftherequirementsforthe admissionandtheexpectationsoftheschoolontheiracademicaswellasbehavior.
The school will admit students to the Diplomaprogram if they meet the requirements outlinedbelow.
2.0GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
All prospective students who wish to be admitted into Diploma one or two must be conversantwithEnglishlanguage,good innumerical literacy,demonstrateinterestin sportsandothertalents,showhighlevelofacademicabilityandhaveapositiverecordof behaviorinandoutsidetheschool

4.0 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
4.1AGE REQUIREMENTS
Theprospectivestudentsarerequiredtobeofthefollowingagerequirement:
DP1-15.0–17.0
DP2-16.0–18.0
Studentswhofallintheagebandabovetherespectivegradewillnotbegivenadmission tothatgradeortolowergrades.DP2admissionswillonlybeacceptedaftertheschool’s firstyearofauthorization. OnlystudentswhohavesuccessfullycompletedDP1willbe admittedtoDP2.
4.2ADMISSION REQUIREMENT
Studentsarerequiredtohavesatisfactorilycompleted;
• 10-12yearsofschoolingwithaGCE/IGCSE
• IBMiddleYearProgram
• KCSEforadmissiontoDP1
5.0 ADMISSION COMMITTEE
Theadmissioncommitteewillbechargedwiththeresponsibilityofadmissiondecisions andactivities.Theywillcompriseofthefollowingpersons:

Deanofstudents-Academic
Headpastoralprogram
Keystage5coordinator
Deanofstudents
IBCoordinator
Threeparsonsofthiscommitteeshalljointlymakealldecisionsregardingadmissions,andshall beheldaccountableforadheringtothispolicy.
6.0ADMISSION PERIODS FOR IB DIPLOMA PROGRAM
ThefullacademicyearofstudywillcommenceinSeptemberunlessthereareany globaldisruptions. Hence,theadmissionperiodsshallfollowthetimelinesbelow:
• Admissionperiod:MarchtoJulyforAugust/Septemberadmissions
• ApplicationswillbereviewedbetweenMarchtoJuly AdmissioninterviewsandentranceexamswillbedonebetweenAprilandJuly
• AllsuccessfulapplicantswillreceiveadmissionlettersbyJuly
• LettersofadmissionacceptancewillbeexpectedfromparentsbyJuly
Admissionsinbetweentheacademicyearwillbedoneoncasetocasebasisprovided thecandidatesmeetstheadmissionrequirements.
7.0ADMISSION OF STUDENTS
7.1Students from Brookhurst schools
Studentsgraduatingfromyear11fromourschoolswillbeadmittedintotheDiploma programdependingontheiracademicabilityandcharacter.Theywillberequiredto meetthefollowingrequirementsinadditionaltoDPentryrequirements.
Aminimumof6credits(A*toC)intheirIGCSE Cambridgeexaminations,anda minimumofBorequivalentinthethreesubjectstheyproposetostudyatDiploma Programme.
Asatisfactorybehaviourrecords
Studentsactivelyinvolvedinsportsandothertalentswillbegivenapriority
Musthaveclearedallfeesandanypriorfinancialobligationtotheschool.
7.2Students from other SCHOOLS
TheschoolswilladmitstudentsfromotherschoolstojoinDiplomaprogram. These studentsmustmeetthefollowingcriteriatogainadmissionintotheprogram.
StudentscomingfromInternationalcurriculumschoolsmusthavescoredgrade C and above in English, Mathematics, one science subject and one humanity in their external examinations. Prospective students must provide official result slipstotheschoolbeforeinterviewsareconducted.
Students coming from the National system will be required to have an overall passof C plain in their Nationalexamination and aminimumof Cforthethree subjectstheywishtostudyatDiplomalevel
Studentsmustattainaminimumscoreof70%oftheentrancetestinEnglishand Mathematics
Anofficialletterofreferencefromthepreviousschoolandleavingcertificatewill berequired.
Candidates must have obtained grade c and above in the three subjects they proposetostudyatIBDiplomalevel. Thegradesmustbesupportedwithofficial transcriptsfromtheexaminationbodies.
Otherdocumentsrequiredinclude:copiesofthechild’sbirthcertificate/passport documentsand original documentsfrom theirpreviousschool such as: leaving certificate,reportformandexaminationresultslips.
7.3Conditional acceptance
StudentsfromIGCSE/GCSEcurriculumwillbegivenconditionaladmissionintoDiploma 1basedonmockpredictedgradesfromtheirschools.Theadmissionwill beconfirmed afterpresentingexaminationresultstranscriptsfromexaminationbodies.
7.4Admission to second year of IB Diploma program
ThefollowingareconditionsofrequirementsforadmissionintoDP2:
TheymusthavecompletedthefirstyearoftheDiplomaProgramatan authorizedschool.
Theyhaveatotalof29pointsattheendoftheirfirstyearintheircurrentschool, andaminimumgradeofCinExtendedEssayandTheoryofKnowledge,and havecompletedtheirCAShours,certifiedbytheCASCoordinatorattheircurrent school.
Obtainameanlevel4achievementinanentranceassessmentforaminimum threesubjecttakenatDP1
ProvideanofficialletterofreferencefromtheHeadteacherorDeputyatthe candidate’scurrentschool,alongwithaschoolleavingcertificate.

8.0ADMISSION PRIORITIES
Theschoolembracesthevaluesofinclusivityandembracediversity.Hence,itdoesn’t discriminatepeoplebasedonanyfactorssuchas:race,ethnicity,genderorreligion amongothers. However,duringtheadmission,prioritywillbegiventothefollowing groups:
CandidatesfromBrookhurstschoolshavingcompletedIGCSEandwithgood recordofacademicabilityandgoodcharacter.
CandidateswithsiblingsinBrookhurstschools
CandidateswithsiblingswhohavegraduatedfromBrookhurstschools
CandidatesfromschoolsthatcloselyrelateandpartnerwithBrookhurstin severalways.
Allotherswillfollowthisorder.
9.0ADMISSION OF SPECIAL NEEDS STUDENTS
Theschoolhasalearningsupportdepartmentthattakescareofstudentswhoaregifted differently. Candidates with physical or cognitive challenges will be admitted into the program. TheLearning supportdepartment will ensuretheir needsaremet in school. Theywillberequiredtobringalongassessmentlettersconductedbycertifiedexaminers. ThedepartmentwillconductownassessmentsanddevelopIndividualLearningPlansfor eachstudentandtrain theteachersonappropriatestrategiesofhandlingthestudents.
Theschool counselor isapsychologist will addressemotional and behavioral issues of thelearners.
10.0 ADMISSION OF TALENTED STUDENTS IN SPORTS AND OTHER AREAS
Candidateswhoareexceptionallygiftedandtalentedinareassuchas:Sports,musicand inartbutfailtomeettheacademiccriteriaforIBDiplomamaybeadmittedprovidedthey pass entrance assessment in English and Mathematics. However, such students must demonstrateabilitytodowellintheprogram.Thiscategoryofstudentswillbesupported byLearningSupportDepartmenttoimprovetheiracademicperformance.Thiscategory ofstudentsshouldnotexceed5%ofthestudentpopulationadmittedtotheprogram.
11.0 CLASS SIZE
Theclasssizeislimitedto20-25students.Whenthenumberexceed25,anewstream willbestartedprovidedthestaffresourceisadequate.
12.0
ADMISSION CONFIRMATION
Theapplicantswillbenotifiedoftheiracceptanceordenialwithintwodaysaftertaking the entrance examinations and review of all the admission documents. This will be communicatedthroughalettersenttotheparentthroughemail.
All applicantsmust pay arefundablecautiondeposit of Ksh. 20,000within 2weeksof receivinganadmissionoffer,and50%ofthefirstterm’sfeeswithin2weeksofaccepting theoffertoreservetheirvacanciesintheschool.Thesemoniesarenon-refundable.
13.0 MONITORING OF ADMISSION
TheDeanofacademicshallberesponsibleformonitoringadherencetothispolicy.Heor shewillreviewthepracticeofadmissionagainstthispolicypertermandsubmitareport totheacademiccommittee. Thisistoensuretheprovisionsofthispolicyarefollowed andnewareasofinclusionintothepolicyareidentified.
14.0 STUDENTS WITHDRAWAL FROM SCHOOL
Parentsorguardiansshouldgiveanoticeofoneterminwritingtotheprincipaloftheir intentiontowithdrawtheirchildfromtheschool.Failuretocomplywillresultin paymentofaterm’sfeesinlieuofnotice.
Studentswillberequiredtocompleteaclearanceformwhichensuresthereturnofany schoolequipmentbooksorresourcesgiventothem.
15.0 POLICY REVIEW
ThispolicywillbereviewedannuallybytheAdmissionscommitteeandanyproposed changeswillbesubmittedtotheprincipalforapproval.
16.0 RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHER POLICIES
Thispolicyisnotimplementedinisolationofprovisionsofotherpolicies.Otherpolicies thatshouldbereadandappliedtogetherwiththispolicyincludethefollowing:
