By Dan Gesslein Cops said they have arrested a Bronx puppy bandit who stole the baby canine at gunpoint last year.

The NYPD announced the arrest of 23-year-old Juan Ramirez of Saint Anns Avenue. He was

charged with robbery.

The NYPD has made an arrest in the theft of a puppy at gunpoint in the Bronx.

when he was contacted by the thief.

Cops said the victim had spoken to an individual on social media who told the dog owner that he was interested in purchasing the pup. The two agreed to meet to hand over

the dog and the cash.

At around 9:30 pm on May 9, the 23-year-old man went to a building in the vicinity of Seneca Avenue and Faile Street in Hunts Point. When he arrived he was not just greeted by the buy-

er but two other men as well. All three men pulled out guns.

One of the trio ripped the dog from the owner’s arms. The gunmen then piled into a gray four-door sedan and drove off in an unknown direction.

5 wanted in beat down, shooting in front of Soundview nail salon

By Dan Gesslein The NYPD released new photos of five suspects wanted for beating a Bronx man and then trying to shoot him on a busy street.

At around 7 pm on January 29, a 25-yearold male was standing in front of a Soundview nail salon at 1207 Stratford Avenue. Cops said a group of young men approached him and then attacked.

The attackers punched and kicked the victim repeatedly, cops said. Then as the victim tried to get away, one of the attackers pulled out a handgun and opened fire, cops said.

The gunman missed and the victim fled.

When police arrived to question the victim he refused medical treatment.

The NYPD released new surveillance video

of the five suspects taken from inside a convenience store. All the suspects are described as males with dark complexions.

pects wore black bubble jackets one of which was a North Face jacket. One of the suspects wore a winter coat with a tan fur collar. He also has a mustache.

By David Greene As Manhattan cops were suiting up before a raid on a Bronx-based scooter gang wanted for dozens of robberies across the city, a duo of scooter bandits broke into a Morris Heights bodega and stole $100,000 from the cash register.

The United Bodegas of America (UBA) is offering a $10,000 reward for information on the two moped-riding bandits who broke into the Los Castillos Market, located at 1601 University Avenue. The break in took place in the early morning hours of February 5.

Market owner Carlos Castillo stated after the theft, “I’m going crazy trying to figure out what happened.

This is my life, it’s the money I had to pay for the monthly expenses. Why me!” Castillo added, “All I do is work like an animal 7 days a week 12-to-15-hour days to support my family. I have no insurance for this loss.”

Radahmes Rodriguez, the President of the UBA said of the growing problem of scooter crimes, “We need to stop the scooter crews who have taken over our city.

These illegal scooters must be taken off the streets.”

Rodriguez added, “We never had a scooter crisis in New York City and now they are everywhere. It’s an easy

escape from police when they travel in pairs.”

Fernando Mateo, a spokesman for the UBA announced a $10,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the scooter-riding bandits. Mateo said, “They break in and break out on scooters. They are organized and feel empowered by bail reform.”

Hours after the robbery, Mayor Eric Adams joined police officials as they announced an early morning raid in the Bronx earlier that day that Adams himself participated in. During the early morning raid at NYCHA’s Parkside Houses in the Allerton section, police announced the arrest of 9 individuals wanted in connection with 62 robberies across every borough but Staten Island.

According to Adams and police officials, the scooter bandits would work in teams, driving on sidewalks and snatching cell phones and other valuables. The phones would then be brought to the Parkside Houses where

hackers would steal banking info before the phones were sent to Colombia where they would be reprogrammed.

During the press conference Adams said, “These individuals do not have a license to steal in our city. Mopeds and scooters are being used for crimes and harming innocent people.

And I want to be clear, again.

The law is coming for those who use mopeds illegally.”

Police released the names of seven individuals charged in connection with the scooter crime network: Yan Jimenez, 25, of Manhattan; Anthony Ramos, 33, Manhattan; Richard Saledo, 20, and Beike Jimenez, 21, both of Allerton Avenue; Maria Manaura, 32, of Man-

hattan; Cleyber Andrade, 20, of Brooklyn; Juan Uzcatgui, 23, of Manhattan.

The Bronx District Attorney announced the names of two additional suspects charged in connection to this scooter-bandit gang: Alexander Dayker, 20, and Roxanna Sahos, 24.

The NYPD continues to investigate.

Getting every single trash bag off our streets

By Mayor Eric Adams New Yorkers deserve clean streets, free of smelly trash bags and rats. That’s why we are taking the next leap forward in the Trash Revolution — our initiative to reimagine trash collection and remove every single trash bag from New York City’s streets.

When we came into office two years ago, we had a mission: Protect public safety, revitalize the economy, and make this city more livable for hardworking New Yorkers.

Our Trash Revolution is a key part of this mission, giving New Yorkers the worldclass sanitation services they deserve. New Yorkers shouldn’t have to hold their noses or dodge trash mountains as they walk home.

Our administration is rejecting that status quo, and is delivering for everyday New Yorkers. We are making our streets cleaner by picking up trash more efficiently and cracking down on illegal dumping across the city.

But we are just getting started. Last week, we unveiled the prototype of a new kind of garbage truck that

uses a mechanical arm to empty trash from new, onstreet containers, like those you might see in European or Asian cities. This will allow us to pick up New Yorkers’ trash quicker, cleaner, and smarter — and we developed this truck in a fifth of the time experts said it would take.

We also announced the next stage of containerization: a full-scale pilot in Harlem’s Community Board 9, expanding from our initial 10-block pilot. This will be the first neighborhood in the city with zero black bags sitting on the street waiting for pickup. Rat sightings in those 10 blocks fell by more than two-thirds year-overyear. That represents real progress, real fast.

of our biggest and densest neighborhoods, helping us tackle mountains of black bags at the source.

Since our administration came into office, we have been making history in the fight for cleaner streets. We established later set out times for trash, and we are providing the highest level of street litter basket service ever for 23,000 baskets across our city.

By this fall, every single New Yorker in all five boroughs will have access to free, pain-free weekly curbside compost collection.

We are cracking down on

illegal dumping and stepping up enforcement efforts. In fact, over the past fiscal year, we issued 24 percent more violations than the year prior.

We have containerized trash for restaurants, delis, bodegas, bars, and grocery stores. And, as of March 1, 2024, all businesses in New York City will have to put out their trash in containers. By this fall, all buildings with one to nine residential units will need to containerize their trash as well.

Here in America, New York City is leading the way, as we use proven solutions that have been adopted in

cities all over the world. Add it all up, and we will already have 70 percent of New York City’s black bags off our streets by this fall. This is the most significant progress toward clean streets that New Yorkers have seen in generations.

No one thought this would be possible, but we are getting it done. As a result, New York City, which used to be known for its mean streets, will now be known for our clean streets.

Rats are moving on and moving out. And our city is becoming more livable than ever for everyday New Yorkers.
