Bronxites reflect on 9/11 attack, profound loss 21 years later

For the 21st year in a row Bronxites across the borough and Americans around the globe gathered to mourn and console one another, in a futile attempt to heal that untouched sorrow that remains to this day in the pit of every Native New Yorker's stomach.Mourners joined residents and local elected officials at New York City Health and Hospital's, ‘The 9/11 Memorial Event,’ hosted at Jacobi Hospital. At about the same time another annual tradition was underway as members of the 49th Precinct gathered outside the station house as Pastor Jay Gooding bestowed a prayer over the offi cers and and fellow clergy members in attendance.Gooding was asked about his thoughts on the attacks 21-years later. “I it's a day we remember and never forget,” he said. “So, it's a day I'll never forget. It was always etched and embedded in my heart, in my mind.”“Iremember that day when I turned on the TV and saw the plane hitting the towers.” But since the pandemic Gooding says he has seen police precincts cleared out as offi cers on the job on that fateful day, have been moving to jobs

At the Jacobi Hospital memorial Assemblyman Michael Benedetto told the Bronx Voice, "A new era can begin on a moment’s notice. It's when the world has decided to change.
