Bromsgrove School
At Bromsgrove School, we understand that not all students are able to return home during the holidays. For this reason, we offer the Guardian Angels Programme — a residential care service that provides a safe, comfortable, and engaging environment for pupils during school breaks.
This service is open to both current Bromsgrove pupils and non-Bromsgrove students, and is particularly valued by our international families. During most School holidays pupils who are unable to return home, or who do not have access to a host family or guardian, can stay here at Bromsgrove under the dedicated care of our experienced staff.
The Guardian Angels Programme is available during several key school breaks:
• February Half Term
• Easter Holidays
• May Half Term
• October Half Term
These stays are designed to provide rest and relaxation in a familiar, supportive setting. The atmosphere is warm, homely, and friendlyhelping students to feel at ease during their extended time away from home.
This service was first offered during the Covid pandemic, when international travel was restricted and many boarders needed to remain at school. It quickly proved extremely popular, and as a result, we have continued to run the programme during most holidays. On average, around 150 boarders choose to stay at School during each holiday period.
Each stay is carefully managed to provide both structure and flexibility, allowing students to rest while still having access to the full range of school facilities and opportunities for social interaction.
Pupils stay in our comfortable, ensuite boarding houses, which remain under the supervision of Bromsgrove School staff throughout the holiday period. A key strength of the programme is the continuity of care: students are supported by the same trusted staff they know from term time. External students are warmly welcomed and quickly made to feel at home by both staff and current pupils.
We also ensure that our Designated Safeguarding Lead is on duty at all times, maintaining our high standards of care, safety, and wellbeing.
A typical day in the Guardian Angels Programme allows for a more relaxed routine than during
term time. Pupils are encouraged to enjoy a wellearned rest, with registration starting at 11:00am, allowing them to lie in and take their time in the mornings.
Breakfast is served in-house in a continental style, while hot lunches and dinners are provided in the main school dining room. All meals are included in the daily cost.
The day’s activities are flexible, with plenty of opportunities for recreation and relaxation, ensuring that students feel both at home and engaged.
Senior:
Older students benefit from greater independence and a wide range of recreational options. They have full access to School facilities, including:
• Tennis courts
• Indoor sports arenas for football, basketball, and volleyball
• The School gym (available to students aged 16 and over, following a safety induction)
With appropriate permissions and following a clear signing in and out procedure, Senior students are allowed to visit the local town in small groups.
Those aged 16 and above may also go further afield with the consent of both parents and house staff. Trips to Birmingham are occasionally organised for the older pupils, providing a safe, structured way to explore the wider area.
For those who prefer quieter pursuits, there are opportunities to relax in the house — whether that’s playing the piano, enjoying games, cooking together, or simply spending time with friends. Evenings are sociable and informal, and students are occasionally allowed to order takeaways as a treat.
Prep:
For younger pupils of Prep School age, a structured daily activities programme is offered. These activities are designed to be fun, ageappropriate, and inclusive, and are often run in tandem with day camps provided by the School for children of the same age.
Whether it’s outdoor games, creative arts, or supervised group play, the focus is on participation, enjoyment, and building friendships.
The Guardian Angels Programme is priced at £60 per day, which includes:
• Accommodation in ensuite rooms
• All meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner)
• Use of School facilities such as the sports facilities, library.
• Participation in supervised activities
• Round-the-clock pastoral care
All activities, outings, and permissions are managed carefully by Bromsgrove staff, ensuring that students remain safe, supported, and accountable at all times.
As in term time, all pupils staying during the holidays are expected to follow the School’s rules and procedures.
These include:
• Signing in and out when leaving or returning to the House
• Adherence to School policies on smoking, alcohol, and behaviour
• Respect for House routines and fellow boarders
