Your Handy Guide LEARN AND PLAY

LEARNANDPLAY

At the Bromley Children Project, they've got some really popular sessions called Learn and Play. It's like a magical mix of fun and growth, specially designed to spark learning and development in kids!

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, where every play session promotes learning and development in key areas.

LEARNANDPLAY

Physical development is a key aspect of the Early Years Foundation Stage, promoting an active lifestyle. The play session encourages children to be active, play team games, and learn new sports.

Ball games helping hand-eye co-ordination and developing fine and gross motor skills. Cycling, hopscotch, juggling - developing balance.

Parachute games - encouraging working as part of a team.

Assault courses - crawling through tunnels, taking turns, jumping from one spot to another.

Creative play helps children build confidence, self-esteem, understand emotions, and develop imagination through expression and exploration.

Messy play - exploring new textures, developing senses and getting messy!

Arts and crafts - discovering colours, shapes, space, lines, textures, patterns in two and three dimensions. Create pictures to describe their own experiences, looking at mirrors and creating self-portraits.

The iCAN sessions are available for children who find they struggle at a universal Learn and Play and would benefit from a more stripped back, reduced numbers session.

These are held in our training rooms and are completely child led allowing children to express their own interests and be free to play without distraction.

Some Children and Family centres offer unfacilitated play sessions which you can attend with your child. These will be without a member of the creche team present and children are free to explore the room and activities.

These are sometimes held in the holidays. Parents and carers are requested to support their child to tidy up the room before they leave.

Sensory room - this can be booked with the Centre Support Officer.

LEARNANDPLAY

Personal, socia n children involve g aging feelings, and forming relationships. Music and movement provide avenues for pleasure, joy, and creative expression, allowing children to release their emotions.

Playing with musical instruments, singing, moving to rhythm.

Discovering instruments from different cultures. Creating their own music from everyday objects. Listening to nursery rhymes, joining in with singing. Dramatic play to recreate roles and their experiences.

Developing children's communication and language skills involves listening, paying attention, asking relevant questions, expressing themselves effectively, and sharing experiences.

The Early Years Assistant at Tiny Talkers reads books to children, uses props for engagement, and encourages questions. After the story, children engage in role play or creative activities related to the story, promoting discussion.

BABY SESIONS

Our ‘Baby’ sessions are targeted for newborns to pre-walkers – activities will be tailored to meet their developmental milestones and be accessible with soft cushioned areas and age appropriate toys.

These sessions are like a baby playground, with a mix of tummy time, language fun, and hands-on play to let your little one conquer the world safely.

Toddler Toddler ssessions! essions!

Our ‘Toddler’ sessions are for walkers to 5 year old (pre-schoolers). These will have slightly more challenging activities, encourage more independent play and be designed to meet their developmental stage and energy levels!

These sessions involve more interaction developing fine and gross motor skills. They are safe and robust sessions for children to let off some of their toddler energy!

WHAT SHOULD I ATTEND?

All children can enjoy the different sessions; The SEN sessions are available for children who find they struggle at a universal Learn and Play and would benefit from a more stripped back, reduced numbers session.

If you have children of different ages and stages, we recommend attending a group most suited to your eldest child (we can always find a soft space for baby in a toddler session, whereas it’ s a challenge to keep toddlers entertained in a baby session).

If you ’ re unsure or have any questions please have a word with a member of the creche or children and family centre team.
