A PUBLICATION OF THE CITY OF BROKEN ARROW PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT

SUMMER 2021 JUN JUL AUG

Director’s Message The Broken Arrow Parks and Recreation Department is very excited for summer operations. Over the summer we stay busy offering youth, adult, and family programs at our Community and Nature Centers, aquatics at the Family Aquatic Center, Nienhuis Aquatic Facility, and swim lessons at Country Aire Pool. Families in Broken Arrow love fitting as many activities into their summer schedules as possible and we are proud to offer programs and activities to help fill those schedules. May 3, 2021 starts a new chapter in the Recreation Division for the City of Broken Arrow with the addition of Jody Baker as Recreation Superintendent. Jody brings 20 years of recreation experience to the City of Broken Arrow Parks and Recreation Department. “Broken Arrow is a great city and I am excited to use my experience and talent to make the parks system the best it can be.” says Baker. Be sure to stop Jody and welcome him to his new role when you see him around town this summer. Another recent change to our staff is the promotion of Brenna Rider to Aquatics Program Supervisor Brenna has been with the department for over four years, previously holding the positions of Farmers Market Coordinator and Event Coordinator. She also worked at our pools during her summers home from college. The addition of an Aquatic Program Supervisor will make it possible to increase aquatic programming, improve customer service, and offer swim lessons at our aquatic centers. “I am excited to begin this new chapter of my career and look forward to continue serving the citizens of Broken Arrow.” says Rider. The Family Aquatic Center and Nienhuis Aquatic Facility will officially open for the season on May 29 at 12:00 pm for open swim. For those interested in signing up for swim lessons or purchasing pool passes, please visit www.baparks.org. The Rose District Interactive Water Feature is officially open for the season with operational hours of 10:00am – 10:00pm. There is no cost associated with using the water feature and is the perfect venue for kids to cool off on a hot summer day. If the family needs a break from the aquatic facilities and Interactive Water Feature make sure to visit one of the six splash pads in Broken Arrow scheduled to open on May 28, 2021 and operate 8:00 am – 8:00 pm. If you are interested in growing some vegetables this summer make sure to sign up for a Community Garden Plot located in Central Park. Currently, the Community Garden consists of 20 plots, with more to be installed in the near future. Upcoming additions to the garden include a shade structure and compost bin. If you are interested in reserving a plot for the season please call Annie at 918-259-7000 Ext. 7440 and she will help you complete the rental agreement and liability waiver. There is no fee associated with renting a plot, so plots will fill up quickly. Call today! The Broken Arrow Parks and Recreation Staff always look forward to the summer months. We truly enjoy fulfilling our role in the community and hope to serve with excellence. For those in the community with new ideas or questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
