2021 TOPIC/ SUJET

*Winner/ gagnant: Category/ Catégorie: General Public/Public général

2021 I am plants. I have a life. I am all around you. I am home to many lives. But I can get diseases. Diseases can kill me.

The two themes of this year’s contest were: You need me because I give you food and oxygen. You need food and oxygen to survive. You need to protect me.

The International Year of Peace and Trust and the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables. If you kill me I can’t give you food and oxygen because I’m dead. You have to try doing helpful things for me.

“This year’s challenges, with the COVID-19 pandemic and the anti-racism movement, showed us the importance of peace and trust among nations, as well as the need for sustainable and equitable vegetable and fruit production and its contribution to healthy diets and lifestyles. Reflecting on these two international years as the themes for our contest was highly appropriate under our current circumstances.”

— Liette Vasseur

The International Year of Peace and Trust: “To promote peace and trust among nations as a value that promotes sustainable development, peace and security, and human rights.”

— Resolution A/ RES / 73 / 338

The International Year of Fruits and Vegetables: “To promote the importance of the nutritional and health benefits of fruit and vegetable consumption, the contribution of fruits and vegetable consumption to the promotion of diversified, balanced and healthy diets, and reducing loss and waste of fruits and vegetables.”

I am plants. I have a life. I am all around you. I am home to many lives. But I can get diseases. Diseases can kill me.

Les deux thÚmes du concours de cette année étaient: You need me because I give you food and oxygen. You need food and oxygen to survive. You need to protect me.

l’AnnĂ©e internationale de la Paix et de la confiance et l’AnnĂ©e internationale des fruits et lĂ©gumes. If you kill me I can’t give you food and oxygen because I’m dead. You have to try doing helpful things for me.

— (rĂ©solution A/RES/73/338).

I also liked the hospital. It kind of felt like an airport, except departures going heaven hell. because I’m dead. If you kill me I meant can’t give youtofood andor oxygen You have to try doing helpful things for me. Sometimes you asked me to bring you fruit from outside Because you had a theory that they were putting sleeping pills Inside all of the oranges at the hospital. I thought it was really funny because of one flaw: How would they stitch the skin back on the orange? Patience is a virtue is a really stupid saying. You can’t really apply that to someone whose dying because you already know where they’re going to go, but then it begs the question, is patience as a concept stupid? Since of course, we’re all going to die anyways, right? And then I peeled the orange too fast, which meant you got a piece of that white stuff stuck in your teeth. When you got worse you couldn’t eat oranges that well so we had to switch to spoon-fed applesauce, which reminded you and I of kindergarten. I told you once that maybe we could get one of those beer-can hats and fill it with applesauce so I didn’t have to be there all the time. You reminded me that you did the same for me when I was a baby and that a son should never regret spending time with his mother. Would those years at the hospital be called the re-formative years? Maybe there’s something to be said about spoon-feeding your parents. Then again, maybe I was just paying back debt from when I was smaller.

I asked you why you would want to be in a computer forever You need to protect me. and you told me that on MacBook’s there’s a thing called Time Machine. A dance of light and water Diseases can kill me. Their symphony transformed. You need me because I give you food and oxygen. A rainbow of serenity while You need food and oxygen to survive. The storms and lightning flashes. You need to protect me. They danced through the sky until The air parts to end the clashes. If you kill me I can’t give you food and oxygen because I’m dead. You have to try doing helpful things for me. Overarching the ground below Friends and foes together. They see now in a different way Their minds changed forever. The dance of light and water Showed that every different hue Had a place in the sky Where they could gleam anew. From which this change came An end to all the fights And so continued onward The trail of rainbow lights Around the world they danced and twirled So as to show the truth. The only way is peace and trust To protect our youth.
