MASTERS PREPARATION CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATION (MPCE)

 MPCE PROVIDES • Academic credit that can be used to improve GPA • Assistance in applying to graduate programs • Canadian references • Career guidance • Community involvement

The Masters Preparation Certificate in Education (MPCE) is a post-undergraduate certificate that prepares students for the rigors of graduate study in the field of Education. MPCE courses include a seminar to help navigate the graduate school application process; English test-taking workshops; and classes in educational foundations and organizations, Canadian cultural practices, critical thinking, pedagogy and research. These courses improve English language proficiency, increase familiarity with Canadian practices and engage the student in the local community. The international student will be wellprepared to apply to, and succeed in, a graduate program in a Canadian university. Scholarships are available for exceptional incoming students, and graduate awards are given to recognize those students who excelled in the program. This eight-month (two-term) academic program qualifies the international student to work while studying, as well as to apply for the Post-Graduate Work Program (maximum eight months) with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Application process Applications are considered on a rolling basis until one month before the start of the program, or until capacity has been reached.

Tips See the website page for additional types of English Proficiency Test scores that this program will accept. Don’t have a 4-year degree? Because MPCE is an academic program, it may be considered as a fourth-year equivalent for those with three-year degrees. Don’t have a 75% GPA on the Canadian scale? Every year the MPCE program will accept a small quota of students with a lower average and give them the opportunity to demonstrate that they can do well in the Canadian academic system.

MASTER OF EDUCATION INTERNATIONAL STUDENT PROGRAM (MEd ISP) The Master of Education International Student Program (MEd ISP) is designed for educators and administrators in K-12 and post-secondary education, and professionals in public and private organizations. International students will become familiar with the Canadian educational system, theoretical perspectives and research foundations. Specializations available are Administration and Leadership, or Teaching, Learning and Development. These course-based programs both offer the opportunity to, if approved, complete two electives outside of the program or undertake a Major Research Paper (recommended for those who would like to pursue doctoral studies). Scholarships are available for exceptional incoming students. Ongoing and graduate student awards are given to recognize high-achieving students. The MEd ISP is a two-year program that has been organized to be completed within one intensive calendar year. This qualifies the international student to apply for the three-year Post-Graduate Work Permit Program with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Current IRCC regulations permit international students to work on or off campus during their studies. Note: Neither specialization leads to the Ontario Certificate for Teaching. The MEd ISP is currently available only at the St. Catharines campus.
